Leafs once again making trash goalies look like world beaters. Murray in the first game against Ottawa and now Koskinen.
Matthews and Marner out there for the last shift. That said, after Matthews-Marner duo on the 3 on 3 OT who we gonna pair Willy with? no choice bsides JT.
Keefe could have managed the bench a little better in the last minute of the 3rd.
If Muzz didnt blow a tire at the end there he was set up by Marner to shoot a bomb on the goal we might have won in regulation there lol.
If you are going to put Tavares out against McDavid, at least don't saddle him with Nylander. Get him someone who's going to battle and try to weather the storm.
My initial reaction was to call Taveras too slow but on the second thought I gotta give him and Keefe a break.
To me the strategy was this, Taveras goes out and wins the draw and the Leafs control play until one of two things happen; you get a break or McDavid/Draisaitl need to change. Nylander got the breakaway but Koskinen makes the save. As soon as there's a break it turns into trading odd man rushes, that's just how 3 on 3 works. We missed on ours they converted on theirs.
Good game, they gotta up their 5 on 5 game though they're looking slower and out of sorts. Only felt like the Matthews line clicked and the rest were individual efforts. Also the way Holl played that rush in OT triggered me a bit but he wasn't bad asides from that.
I dont think of him as the same ball park of the big boys really. He is in that pastrnak and marner and kucherov level. Mcdavid, mackinnon, matthews are in that seperate level to me.no when.
when McDavid was out Draisaitl continued to gather points.
wishful thinking by some.
No this is based and not pessimisticAm I being pessimistic by pointing out we probably only deserved 2 or 3 points of the 7 we got?
Everyone seems to be happy with points in the bank, and I get the logic, but we're really not far off from the same team that looked like the Sens when compared to the elite teams in the league.
I've seen probably 3-4 periods of hockey this year where we looked like a team that could fight for a cup.
Yeah if you follow the sequence the Leafs stacked their scoring line out there in the last minute to win it, so the Tavares line was up, but it's just one of those things where I prefer Tavares isn't out to start 3 on 3 because his footspeed is such a weakness.
Not too upset with his loss, but just making the comment that I'm not liking Tavares mobility 'limitations' lately, especially when it looked like he had figured it out when the season started.
WrongWere 10 games into the season and Nylander is a significantly better finisher. Unfortunately Nylander also lacks the balls to drive the neck on a breakaway, so we got a pathetic attempt from the outside on a breakaway that I would never defend.
Still, I don't think Marner would've done much better in that scenario. Matthews? Yes.

no team has played more games than the Oilers i'm surprised they weren't gassed tonight
Need to get something going 5v5
Xxx - Matthews- Marner
Nylander-Tavares- Hyman
Soup-Kerfoot- Simmonds
I love Hyman, and the line works, but I think it works in spite of him. I feel like both him and Soup are each slotted one line too high for their ability to process and mesh
If you don't start your best players in OT, you deserve to lose. Getting a point after trailing by 2 goals is still a pretty acceptable outcome
Yes I'm sure an Oilers fan commenting on the Leafs is objective analysis. No this is based and not pessimistic
This team needs to play much better hockey if they want to have any hope of winning a stanley cup. Winning games is nice bit the big picture is about being an elite team and creating winning habits. If we play this way vs TB for example we are getting smoked. We aren't taking that next step into elite level and we should have by now. Are we a top 15 team? Sure. Could we finish top 2 or even 1st in the division? Yes. Are we top 10? Maybe. But this team does not look like anywhere close to a top 5 team or stanley cup champion and anything outside of that paradigm isn't seeing the big picture.
Oilers were the better team tonight, no idea why Tavares would go out vs MCdavid in OT, literally any other top 9 player would be better for just trying to survive his shift.
same number of games except the Leafs have not had a two-day break in between games since the season began.
I'd honestly rather Kerfoot than Tavares in 3 on 3, not even joking.
Plus the only reason they started was because Marner and Matthews were tired. Keefe starts them if they were not.We started John freaking Tavares and William Nylander. I don't get posts like this.
