It's not just this year either. He's been fighting it for a few years it seems. I'll admit that I don't watch a lot of Penguin games but he hasn't looked dominant in any game I have seen him in, in a longtime. That includes last years World Championships and the last Olympics. Who knows if there's anything going on between him and Lemieux or not. What we do know for a fact is all the awful injuries he's had over the years. It's disgusting how the league has pretty much ignored players cheap shotting him his entire career. Steckel got nothing for that first hit that gave him a concussion or broke his neck (whatever that one did). Dubinsky getting only one game for what he did to him last night was just as much of a joke.

On top of all that he plays for a team that has a medical staff that seems to have a lot of trouble diagnosing injuries and illnesses with him and his teammates. Maybe he's flat out just lost his passion for hockey in general and the NHL in particular.

Crosby has been first in the league in points per game every one of the past 5 seasons.

Bad first 23 games to start the year aside, he'll be fine and he'll be back to being the best player in the league sooner or later.

When I say Hall isn't dangerous, I just mean that if someone like Eberle found himself in the situations that Hall generates like a dozen times a game --he'd be capitalizing on a lot more of them. Hall puts himself in great position to score all the time but really only generates a legit "scoring chance" like 5% of the time. (eyeballing and randomly estimating here, but still).

If I see Hall with a breakaway to me its the same level of danger/threat as Matt Hendricks. Hall drives the play but he also drives me mad with his low quality shots.

I think I'd rather have Hendricks on a breakaway than anyone else other than Eberle. There's a reason they called him the paralyzer.

As I mentioned, I decided to go eat a Schnitzel instead of watching the game tonight.
Is it mere coincidence that I beat the schnitz in a shootout as well?

I think not.

How was Schultz?
EbS?
Letestu?

Was this the Schnitzel?

Hall has the drive/speed but lacks an elite level of finish and has "decent" bit not elite hands.

Eberle has elite hands and finish... but simply lacks that drive/speed and is known for his soft perimeter play.

Put those 2 together into 1 player and "it" would be a Hart + Art Ross level player.

You sir, just described Connor McDavid.

Seriously? Malkin was in another stratosphere. He had 1st star wrapped up before the game was half over. Eberle looked like a junior player compared to him.
Eberle scored on the Shootout so that's probably why.

The 3-star selectors are likely goldfish-like... 3 second type memories so when they saw that nifty Eberle SO goal... that sealed the deal and he was #1.

No matter though... the Oilers won so even if they picked 3 retired players from the 1970's... the 2 points are all that really matters.

They drug it OT and secured the extra point in the SO. Not pretty, and yet that is what it takes some times to be a respectable NHL team these days. This was despite the Oilers having the misfortune of Columbus unleashing beast mode Malkin the game before.

Lames are likely to loose, Part of me wants them to finish below us this year, but another part does not want them to get a high draft pick. :)

I really want them to finish lower after all the **** talk that Flames fans were giving us in the summer. They were so damn sure that their rebuild was over.

Finishing higher would be such a satisfying insult to them.

Crosby couldn't have looked like he gave less of a **** on that shootout attempt.

Very weird. Maybe he's showing he wants out, rumours him and Mario are on the downswing.

Maybe one day, Crosby/McDavid 1/2 Centres, and still finish 20th+

We would probably still be winning lotteries if this were the case, because after we pay these two we could only afford to surround them with a bunch 3rd and 4th liners and a group of bottom pairing defensemen. Actually, that sounds eerily familiar.....

Every player makes mistakes, even the very best. Crosby for example almost gave the game away in the OT as an example.
This is a truth so many fans on this site seem to be unaware of.

Your example is great. I also saw Malkin not back-checking at all on the Oilers first goal. Because the Oiler were so slow to convert their odd man break (as usual) he made it back to the d-zone before the puck went in and then promptly went and banged into his own team mate in front of the goal. This prevented said team mate from getting to Draisiatl who popped the puck in the net while Malkin looked on.

Every player in the NHL has warts and bad games. Bad months even.
Laugable lol., Pittsburgh is cluless
Did he score on the most important shot of the night?

Post like this drive me crazy with their low level of thought.
Right?

Maybe we need to explain that when Hall takes a ... what was it, "low percentage muffin" from the boards, he is frequently hoping for a broken play or a rebound or in many cases he will even beat the defender to the front of the net and try to crash the crease.

There was a perfect example in the game the other night. Hall takes a low percentage shot from the wall but spins off the man and manages to be first to the puck which has bounced toward the corner. He was on that puck in a second and in one motion laid it right on Davidson's tape barreling down the middle of the slot. It was a hard pass to make and he made it perfectly. Pity Davidson rang it off the crossbar.

Hall frequently has to do everything by himself. Those "weak muffins" are his way of advancing the puck (trying to make something happen) and using his speed to grab it up again ahead of the defenders. Doesn't work all the time, but its pretty surprising how often he can pull it off at this level when defenders have to be expecting it from him by now. Shows how explosive his speed is. They know he's going to blow by them, but they can't stop him.

I honestly cannot believe that my hfoil experience is now just writing nightly defenses of Hall, RNH and Eberle.
At least when I was defending Gagner and Souray, I could kind of see why some people might not be in love with those players, but Hall? Really?
