Post-Game Talk: Oil flooding the infirmary

Management now has a shield to hide behind when the team loses to the Kings in round 1.
Pump the breaks.

This is an organization being thorough in its approach and also being transparent.

These two guys going to an imaging clinic for a procedure in Edmonton would leak out about 2 minutes after they show up, so they are just doing the right thing by communicating this. Let’s see what happens next.

Hell no. The big brains will get this one on them too as far as I'm concerned, because McDavid and Draisaitl have been forced to carry this team basically on their own year after year with no help. If they are injured, it was honestly overdue. Oilers management makes the Enron guys look like smart people.

I'd hardly call that a shield lol. No team in the NHL is winning a round missing their top two players.

If these guys are out for the playoffs, then we just hope that the Oil put in a good showing and play some exciting hockey for 7 games.

If they're actually out then absolutely, but what's actually going to happen is they'll play, be the two best players on the ice, and then the loss will be pinned on nebulous 'injuries that were being played through.'

Meanwhile the team sv% will be .870

Playing center automatically forces him to be more engaged where as with McDavid he kind of is floating on the wing just waiting for something to happen

Agree, he still has the speed and stick handling to at least drive back defenders and create space, even if he has no intention of splitting and beating them down the funnel.

When he does that and then makes a (usually) super safe dish to a driving winger, it creates trouble for the opposition... but he's got to be carrying the puck to make that happen.

And he doesn't much when he's with McDavid... and he now lacks the outside speed or muscle to be a true driving winger, which is what McD thrives with. I've always felt he's a better match for Drai than McD, but still... now that we finally have NHL wingers top-to-bottom, I'm much happier with him at C.

So if Pickard gets the next few starts and goes on a run, will they be gutsy enough to start him in the playoffs?
We all know the answer to that question, Skinner will get ample starts in the playoffs no matter how bad he plays. We’ve seen this play out year after year and it’s going to be real ugly this year.

Or they will be out a couple of weeks allowing some of our players to re-discover their former glory leading to a well oiled war machine heading into the playoffs. :naughty:

Very happy with the effort overall. Seemed like everyone had more spring in their step when they knew they had to step up which is encouraging. 97 and 29 being out for a brief amount of time might not be a bad thing if it allows the rest of the group to feel it a bit more with more minutes.

I’d be more than ok if we never see that Nure - Walman pair ever again. Both were rancid, especially 25. I think with Nurse it’s best to not reinvent the wheel. His safety net is Kulak and he plays well with Kulak - just pair him with Kulak. It kind of screws up the pairs, but whatever. Nurse was just as if not more guilty than Skinner for this loss. I believe he was on the ice for all GA’s and had a hand in all of them.

McDavid and Leon are fine. McDavid was in his suit during post game interviews LOL. They'll be fine. You want them healthy in the playoffs. Not right now.

Injuries aside, I thought we played very good last night. Our depth players and secondary scorers came through. Seems like Skinner, Henrique, Arvidsson, Hyman etc are coming through at the right time.

Hopefully they keep it up

There you have it folks. Tony has the inside scoop. The fact that both players are going for imaging is a smokescreen, duh.

I don't think anyone has really mentioned what an awesome game Podz had yesterday. He's definitely not a top 6 guy, but he really has been shining in the bottom 6 and PK. He's being used effectively and we see the results!
Pod and Arvidsson (what a pass by Arvy that led to the Pod mini-breakaway in the 3rd) are really starting to round into form just in time for the stretch run, Skinner as well, looks like Henrique is starting to rev up that playoff energy as well. We can lament the loss of the guys they replaced all we want (and Holloway stings tremendously, could have still had him AND these guys but I digress) but if they perform well in the playoffs, that will all go away and who cares about the 50 or so games of underperforming if they do. Either way, the JJ signings are starting to play better so it should be noted.

I'd expect him in a suit, hurt or not majority of guys are in suit post game. He also had ample time to get changed. Unless he's that guy that doesn't shower until the whole team is together.

It honestly wouldn't hurt the team to give drai and mcdavid some time off. Maybe it will teach this team to put some effort in while they are out.
The team has started to step up as of late which is nice to see. Wondering if guys are finally seeing the writing on the wall that eventually there are going to be two guys in Frederic and Kane taking spots.

Why these guys weren't stepping up before the trade deadline is something I wonder about though

Another f***ing garbage game from stewed Skinner.

On 17 shots 3GA, 2 posts, A ridiculously bad come out of net situation where he's beat clean and fortunately Jets don't score, and he lets an alley oop from Center ice get by him. It beat him. If thats on target its going in

Pickard comes in and gets the loss because our #1 is a clown.
I don't think he was garbage. I didn't like the rebound on the first goal, but he was very good after that. Strange game with low SON totals, but plenty of grade A chances. Oilers must have given up 3 or 4 two on ones and some high quality looks in the second period alone. And his all-star counterpart didn't exactly light the place on fire, letting one in from distance and a slow rolling squeaker from in tight.

Nurse with easily the worst OT play of all time. f*** the Jets, diving dirt bags.
Not sure why he chose a dump it in, in OT, where possession is the name of the game. Especially when Scheiffle, Connor and Morrison are on the ice. And the Jets are definitely Olympic divers, led by Ehlers. Trouble is, the refs are too incompetent to see it.
