I will be interested to see when\if NCAA teams start plucking kids out of USport. If their facilities outshine the O, wouldn’t a couple of years at BU be enticing for a first year U player in Canada?
Lots of USport players have likely already committed to NCAA schools, just wont announce until season is completed. They would all be freshman or sophomores, so not wanting to ruin their existing icetime announcing they committed to a US program

Once you play a year of USports the clock starts ticking and you begin to lose year(s) of eligibility. Still may be attractive though.

After the ruling of JUCO years not counting for Vanderbilt QB.

"That's because a federal judge in Tennessee awarded an injunction to Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia that gives him an extra year of college football. Pavia argued that the NCAA counting the time he spent at the JUCO level towards his total eligibility is a violation of antitrust law."

If someone from USports were to challenge it, they may win, and those years wouldn't count against them. They also might not win, but I think at someone you see someone challenge it.

Hypothetically speaking, if an NCAA school wanted the player, they could award an academic scholarship for the 4th year if the player chose not to pursue pro hockey. I cannot see anything related to USports getting in the way. Hypothetically speaking, players that go to USports in Canada typically are getting their education and then “maybe” play minor pro in the ECHL and/or Europe for a while.

It is really tough for those players to get a shot because they need to considerably outperform draft picks and players that have signed contracts. Near impossible to get on a 50 man roster at the NHL level from there. Players have done it for sure but the situation needs to be perfect.

I could see a player with one year of USports, take an NCAA Scholarship and play for three years and then, as mentioned, the school gives him a “job” with the University that qualifies him for free tuition or simply awards an academic scholarship paid for by a donor. So many work around to cover remaining academic years. If the player turns pro after 3 years then so be it.
