OHL 2023 playoff prediction thread

Watched parts of all the games last night. Surprised how Flint and Owen Sound played. I really thought Flint being older and battle harden would be better. Sudbury looked strong and look to be good next year. And Sarnia looks dialed in, they will be the toughest out in the playoffs. IMHO anyway.

The Peterborough Petes are the first team to advance to the second round with 4-0 sweep of the Sudbury Wolves. The Petes are playing great hockey at the moment. I would not rule them out of winning another series in the second round.

Can't say I saw that one coming. The Petes weren't all that impressive in the regular season but who knows maybe they were saving their best for the playoffs

They are a far better team than their regular season record indicates. The team was slow to gel after the trade deadline and they came together as a team in February until illness and injuries took key players out of the lineup. One of the main reasons for their success against Sudbury in the first round was their discipline, team play and having several players with a lot of play off experience and many others who have played in a least one playoff series. I think they have a chance to win a series against Ottawa or who ever they play in the second round.

On paper they have a solid roster. It just seemed like a matter of time before everything would gel, which is often the case after the trade deadline. Even if it took longer for the Petes, this is a great time for things to come together.

I’ve noticed a few improvements recently. In addition to overall team chemistry, the biggest individual improvement I’ve noticed is Othmann. It seems like he’s more interested in the game, has become more of a team player, and takes less penalties than he was while still drawing them. Hayes is also (finally) being used to his strengths and is scoring like we saw in Hamilton.

In fairness, my viewing of the Petes is very limited, but that’s my observation.

It helps to have a mostly healthy lineup too. Wolves were missing a top six forward and a top two defenseman. I suspect the Pete’s would have won anyways but the series would still be going on. They’ll be a tough out going forward

Sorry your not hiding from anyone anymore. Hunter will not take your team lightly.
With the exception of maybe last year the Knights seem to have the Rangers number. Knights were the stingiest team in the west 2nd only to Ottawa in the league. The will be a hand full and you can never count Hunter out of any game. Guy knows how to play poker. Ranger fans went into these play offs with low expectations. Never thought for a moment they would do what they did against the Spits. It's still hard to wrap your head around. I know the Ranger players never gave up on each other but the fans did a few times this season. Junior hockey is full of surprises. Spits have to two of the best rookies in the league so the future looks bright there.
