Reading these threads you can tell who bearish investors are and who bullish investors are.

Bull: "I like the outlook and long term vision. Hold and grow"
Bear: "The THE END IS NIGH! Everyone should be shorting this business because it's going to ZEROOO!"

Like, I'm sure lots of the bears are good people in real life, but my god just mad negative.

We better stay the **** away from rentals. I'm still down for a Stone trade if we are confident he will sign long term but if we give up a 1st for Hayes or something like that...

This team has issues on defense, if Trouba leaves we will have big ones. Myers, Kuli, Chairot, Morrow are all not good defensemen. Silver lining is Niku is looking better and better and it feels like Maurice is starting to trust him a bit more, though that might only be by necessity.
I agree about not overpaying today, but worry about next year's D next year.

Im sorry but I dont agree, and in my opinion this is unfounded.

Along with Winnipeg the following teams have had extended stretches of both good play and awful play this season (this is off the top of my head):

Toronto
Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
Nashville
St Louis
Colorado
San Jose
Vegas
Vancouver
Edmonton
Anaheim

While this is no way guarantees any of these teams or Winnipeg will be on top of their game come playoff time (provided they make it) I think it serves as a good reminder to keep an even keel. It's not like the Jets no longer have the ability to play consistently well.

Saying "This is who we are" is very puzzling to me. As far as I can tell its like saying the Jets have truly been a .500 or Sub .500 team this entire time, which doesn't add up.

JoMo's injury is potentially a problem going forward, but on the other hand both him and Buff could both be back in action in a couple weeks. Having Scheifele back to normal with his over 1 point per game average would be an immense help.

Whether or not you're a Jet fan it strikes me as way premature to write them off for this season.

If you look at any collection of advance stats, the Jets SHOULD be closer to a .500 team than they are. If you are using their overall record as a barometer for this year I can see why you have a false sense of optimism.

This team has some significant flaws. Saying ‘this is what we are’ means that the actual game results are now more correlated with our advance stats, unlike the start of the season where we were still being outplayed but coming away with wins

We are a .500 club now. Goes back for 2 months to Dec 27th. We are just not very good right now. Injuries don't help, they are exposing our lack of depth. This isn't the year to be buyers at the deadline.

I play hockey with someone who's good friends with one of Stones best friends and the word on the street is he's not keen on playing in his home town due to the "Home Town Pressure", I'm taking this with a grain of salt because you can't always believe "the word of the street" stuff but if this is true I'd be fine with finding someone else that won't cost us important assets. Hayes would be my second choice.

Now in regards to yesterdays game, not a great game by any strech but Kuemper played really well and the game could have been a lot closer if he didnt stand on his head. The Jets just don't look like a playoff team right now, with all this teams talent up and down the line up it's frustrating to see the wheels falling off. Still in 1st but man how long is that gonna last if we keep playing like this?

Just a ****e game. We gave up 2 ****e goals and just couldn't score. The latter seems to happen all too often this year. Total scoring is OK, but it seems to come either 5+ or 1.

JoMo lost. Game lost. Season lost. No good ever comes of trade deadline day. Time to wallow in some vintage Tristania. Only the goddess Vibeke can ease the blackness in my soul this morning.

:jk: but I am getting pretty sick of this shit.

I've heard the same about a certain New Jersey player as well.

I rarely post and am not a hockey analyst, but what team wins the Stanley cup allowing as many shots and scoring chances as the Jets do?

Jets are 5th in the league on shots against and every team with a worse showing is out of the playoffs (and most just terrible).

The Jets are a mid-pack to lower tier defensive team that relies on big scoring to win games. As we have seen, when the scoring stops, the teams record falls apart quickly.

We have probably the most streaky goal scorer in the NHL in Laine. He'll score four goals in a 7-1 beatdown of some basement dweller and then go cold for a month when we need goals and wins. He scores, but it doesn't contribute to team in a way that puts extra wins on the board.

I think Hellebuyck has been exposed as an average goalie on a better than average team. Save % is reverting to previously established trend after an outlier season.

Little 16

If you want to go stat crazy I will calculate the standard deviation of Laine's production and compare it to other Jets. We all know the outcome of that exercise.

In fact, if you remove three games from this season's stats (two hat tricks and a 5 goal game), you remove 39% of goals this season. He's left with 17 goals in 59 games.

this season:
# of games the player has scored atleast 1 goal

Scheifele 24
Connor 21
Laine 17
Little 13
Tanev 13
Wheeler 12
Ehlers 11

If you remove Ehlers 2 hattricks and his 2 goal game he's left with 8 goals in 39 games
If you remove 3 of Connors 2 goal games he's left with 18 goals in 59 games

16-17 to this day Laine has scored in 80 games, that's more than any other Jet. That would indicate he's in fact the most consistent goal scorer on the team.

Even this season he's scored most goals to break the tie:

Laine 12
Scheifele 12
Connor 8
Ehlers 6
Tanev 4

If you score the go ahead goal you must have some influence on the outcome

Brossoit looked shaky, but he didn’t get any favors with the bounces either. On to the next one.
