Weber will start to produce once the #1 PP line is established in the regular season.

They keep putting forcing Alex "The Shin Buster" Edler on there and it never works. Weber showed last year that he can produce once he's given consistent opportunities in that spot.

I dunno, how many times has Edler been a mainstay on the 1st unit of a top 10 PP? And pretty sure it's been shown numerous times Edler doesn't have a higher percentage of his shots blocked than other pp shooters. Biggest issue is he's being asked to be the blueline ppqb, which he isn't suited to.

Yee.

I looked at the top 30 SOG dmen this season.

Edler is on the higher end of % of shots directed on net blocked.

On the other end, Edler is on the lower end of % of shots directed on net missed.

Overall, Edler's about middle of the pack among the dmen who get the most SOG at getting shot attempts through to the net. So in other words, he's average among the best at getting shots on net.

I hope that myth dies soon.

Also agree with you that Edler's not great at being a blueline ppqb. I have read that Edler's very effective at successful PP zone entries though.

Very disappointed seeing Gaunce sent down. He's had a solid pre-season. You can't tell me that Vey and Prust deserve a spot over him.

If he actually meant it as a "Peace out!" to Kenins and Gaunce, then shame on him. What a foolish and immature thing to do.

But I have a hard time believing he would be that socially inept. Probably just posting a cool pic of himself after he scored, and didn't consider the timing.

That was a pic of the goal from Monday and he tweets it right after Gaunce and Kenins gets sent down? He's probably just psyched the door is still open for him and celebrated it in a poor manner. Accidental BM, I'd say.

If Vey makes the team it will be a huge joke. 5GP so far in the pre season with 0 points while being gifted premium minutes. Pre season is the easiest time to score...He is useless defensively and can't hold his own in a top 9 role. Only good thing I have seen from him this pre season is nice passes. Literally nothing else. Management should give their heads a shake.

that doesn't mean he performed well, it means the unit was very good. Maybe it has something to do with the twins?

Edler was outperformed on the PP by Yannick Weber last year.

Would you consider Weber an elite offensive D? I wouldn't.

Edler had 22 pts (2 years ago), and then 31 points last year. And he gets fed prime time ice time and loads of PP time.

Simply put, he is not very good offensively.

Can't a guy be happy he made the cut without crapping on his teammates
I don't take it as "in your face Guance"

He tweeted this right when they cut Gaunce and Kenins. That's pretty BM.

Or he's breaking that he is being sent down too. IDK.

I'm confused. Who are you talking about?

EDIT: Okay I see it's Jared McCann you're talking about. Weird, I can't see whatever you quoted.

Pretty sure the PP's production has a lot more to do with the Sedins than Edler.

I think the problem is that it seems his shots get blocked high (near the blueline, close to him) instead of in the traffic right in front of the net. Not only is it more dangerous for a rush the other way, but there's less of a chance that the PP creates something off the loose puck.

Like y'all said, he's not suited to be a PPQB. I'm not blaming him, that's on the coaches. He doesn't have a great shot and although he's an excellent outlet passer, his offensive zone passing is nothing more than regular. Don't know why he keeps being trotted out there.

My overall point is that, statistically, Weber very clearly outplayed Edler on the PP last season and should be kept in the lineup as a specialist. Because of this, he is a lot more valuable than Sbisa even if they are both below average defensively in general.

Not a fan of Fedun in the organization. I agree our depth is poor, but I'm not high on him either.

Huh? He's an excellent AHL defender/callup type. Scored at a 40-point pace in the AHL the last two years and showed well in NHL stints.

He's the perfect sort of guy to be at #9-10 on the depth chart. Not sure what your expectations are for guys in this role. You need at least 3 veterans on your AHL blueline and he's ideal for that.

I interpret that tweet as either McCann getting cut, or told that he's staying for 9 games, then being told by Canucks PR staff that he can't announce that yet.

Either that or he just uploaded the pic because he liked it and there's really no other reason.

Is there any reason why people think it's attached to Gaunce/Kenins being sent down other than the timing?

Gaunce deserved better. Ridiculous he wasn't given a look at center. Looked NHL ready. What a shame that junk like Prust and Vey have blocked him.

So much this. Should have made the team and would almost certainly be a better option at C than the likes of Vey.
