GDT: Official Trade Deadline Thread II

Ugh. So this team is building around Torts going forward now?:help:

I think it's more building around signing our young RFAs and not having an overpaid bum like Gaborik on the roster who lost his scoring (and before we ***** about Torts, lets realize that Torts coached him the last two years when he played well).

I was told I needed therapy for even suggesting the Jackets would take Gaborik and his salary. My proposed deal was Brassard, Prospect, 1st. Essentially we got something pretty equal to that.

Good call. It was always possible, I just never thought it would get down to just Columbus and Gabs would agree to it.

Now I realize how desperate he wanted out of the Torts game.

They were building around him from the beginning. Gabby is one of the last pre-pieces to go. Who is left.

Cally
Boyle
Hank
Staal
McD
MDZ
Stepan

That's a pretty significant overhaul in three years

I think, first and foremost, that the Rangers are NOT going to win the cup this year. So, Sather tooling up for next season. He just dumped a ton of cap space so he can resign all of our guys.

The thing is they accused me of trying to "dump" Gaborik on them. He's going to be solid for them, seems like a good fit for him honestly. Plus he had success with Anisimov and Prospal.

If my memory serves me correctly, the only remaining forwards from the 8th seeded core team of two years ago are Callahan, Stepan and Boyle. :amazed:

well, i do believe they took on a ton of salary versus what we took on...anyone wanna do the math?

Gabby - 7.5 mil (UFA 2014-15)
Delisle - 733,000 (RFA next year)
Parlett - 537,500 (RFA next year)

Total: 7.5 (with 1.25mil in farm if they don't call them up)

Brassard - 3.2 mil (RFA 2014-15)
Dorsett - 1.6mil (UFA 2015-16)
Moore - 965,00 (RFA 2014-15)

Total: ~5.8 mil.

Rangers add 1.7 mil in cap space from this deal, three solid players, and the ability to resign Clowe.

So, lines anyone?

Callahan - Stepan - Nash
Clowe/Hags/Zucc - Richards - Clowe/Hags/Zucc
Clowe/Hags/Zucc - Brassard - ???
Powe - Boyle - Asham

Hagelin-Richards-Zucc
Powe-Brassard-Clowe
Pyatt-Boyle-Asham

I seriously doubt that these 3 guys will score 40 goals combined. When was the last time 3 of our bottom 6 guys scored 40 goals combined? That is my only issue here with the things you said.

I believe they can and will and am basing it off of actual performance, not a feeling of what I think they can or can not produce. But I guess we'll have to agree to disagree and wait to see what happens.

Actually, we freed up more than 1.7 mil. That's 5.8 mil for 3 roster spots, as opposed to 7.5 mil for 1 roster spot. That's probably an extra 2 mil in "virtual" cap space, since we don't need to sign players to fill those other spots.

He is one of the guys who can't count. $7.5M for one player is too much with the Rangers current commitments and future commitments.

The sad part is we effectively ran out Gabby by signing Richards.

Richards is more of a black hole than Gabby

I suppose, I'm still kind of in shock I guess :/ I had to blame something.

I'll wait and see how the team plays once the new additions start fitting in. I hope we dont look back and regret this is all.
