Highly doubtful we see him in a game before next season, but man, the competition in this lineup is going to be fierce once camp roles around if we re-sign Gourde. Basically one top 9 spot between Goncalves, Geekie, Howard, and Chaffee.

I don't quite get the hesitancy in trading for depth. It would raise prices, I'm sure. If we're going for the cup, and a guy doesn't cost a first, or even a second, then what's the hold up? Go get your man.

At the same time I think JBB didn't want to go to crazy on depth having then to cut rookies that he probably wants to grow and have an even bigger impact next season (when IMO, will be the season where we'll truly be ALL IN)

We can clean things up in the offseason. We don't know where Isaac Howard or Conor Geekie will really be, or what deals could happen at the draft.
Jankowski has another year after this one too. Sure he’s cheap depth but at this point we have more than enough at forward.

Jankowski is on his 5th NHL team in the last 5 years and has spent time in the AHL for the past 3 seasons prior to this one. Nothing against the guy but I don't think he brings a lot to the table or helps add to the identity. If anything, we should have just kept Eyssimont and found a way for the $ to work.

True but it's ironic that we're now talking about a missing piece at the bottom of the lineup. Obviously a contract had to be moved, but in hindsight it would have been nice to somehow keep him in the mix with his improved recent play and overall energy. I think our lineup shows more balance and everything slots in a little bit better with him, vs Goncalves or a potentially revolving door of Atkinson/Geekie/Howard/Sheary etc.

It's too many band aids and let's see what they can do kind of players down there.
Girgensons wasn't a bad signing, he's just a low impact, do nothing player 60 games in that shouldn't be a regular heading into playoffs. Goncalves is unproven. Different player but isn't battle tested in playoffs. Glendening is 50/50 but at least he does his job, can't really knock a 4C who wins faceoffs and PKs. Atkinson, Sheary, etc aren't NHL material.
It's a very disjointed bottom six. In the past, at least we knew what we had there and at the very top, so middle six was the issue. Now, our top 6 is virtually set, better depth in the middle 6 for sure, but the 4th and even Chaffee some nights is mediocre at best. And if our top line gets neutralized, we are counting on Hagel, Cirelli, Bjork, Gourde and Paul. Five good players but stacked against Florida and Toronto, that's difficult.
JBB needs to figure out with Coop if they are going to physically punish an opponent in 2025-2026 and go heavy, or punish them on scoring chances and go fast. Because there's a clash of styles and it's apparent there's no vision for it either. It's just a quick fix of who is better than who.
