Player Discussion: official trade deadline 2025 // discussion thread

Tldr;

Mittlestadt - I like him but I don't think he's a good scheme fit, if he's not doing well in a similar system I'd be worried he won't fit in well here
Boeser - meh
Nyquist- yes please
Bjorkstrand - yes please
Gourde- meh depends on the price.

Nyquist - no, sorry that is a sentimental acquisition. I love the guy but please no.
Bjorkstrand - yes helps out our forecheck, still under 30 and can score (Streaky) but will fit in the room
Boeser - possibly yes better upside with size but depends on the cost
Mitts - no

We need a player who can play with talent at a second line level, perhaps fitting with Fantilli or KJ. We've been a one line team all year and Gus is one of I'm sure several guys around the league who could be had for cheap and still count as significant upgrades on our depleted lineup.

I think people who are calling it a sentimental add are just missing the point - they never understood the argument to begin with so they're assuming it's about sentiment.

He's remarkably consistent.

We usually agree but on Nyquist, we don’t. Nyquist is meh add and hardly an upgrade on anyone we have in the top 6. Not a playdriver, not great on board play and a playmaker. I would rather JVR over him.

I might have the Elvis trade if we want to move on from him this summer. (Yes, I know he has been much better lately. But I also know Elvis.)

Elvis for Ondrej Palat. They both have 2 years left. Similar money owed. Elvis has a slightly lower cap hit. The Jackets would get a two time Cup winner in the locker room. The Devils would get a streaky goalie and slight cap savings.

For the Jackets it would be a way to move on without a buyout. I see some Jersey fans calling for a buyout for Palat, so they could avoid a buyout and give Elvis a shot with a change of scenery. If Palat doesn’t work out we then buy out the last year. Similar option for the Devils.

What the hell???
You mean, the Devils team with Markstrom as their #1 goalie and Jake Allen as their back up??
And who does CBJ get for their #1 goalie?

Nevermind, it's not going to happen anyways....

…. and you’re running with tarasov the rest of the way with confidence that he’ll lead us to the playoffs? lol wut

if DW trades elvis at this deadline, it would go down as not just the most surprising CBJ trade but the most foolish in history of the jackets franchise. and that’s saying something.

Not at the deadline. In the summer. Hence the part of my post that specifically say “if we want to move on from him this summer.” Jake Allen is UFA so the Devils could roll with Markstrom and Elvis. Then we grab a free agent goalie. Like Aiden Hill.

I want to build a Cup winner. Not keep the same guys that aren’t going to get us there. Let’s bring in a veteran who has actually won Cups. Let’s sign a better goalie.

Nyquist is without a doubt better than a few of the tweener guys on the roster like Lebanc. We need depth and if he's still capable of mixing into the top 9 I'm making that move, not to mention the added veteran presence that he brings to a locker room full of kids.

He's easily better than most of our bottom 6 and probably a better fit in the top 6. Evason has been forced to play ZAR in the top 6 some nights, that's insane lack of depth.

Nyquist isn't going to win the team a Cup but if he helps get them into the playoffs at a decent price, that's worth it. I personally would rather go acquire Bjorkstrand and call it a day as he'd be a great fit.

What is the price for a Nyquist or a Bjorkstrand? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me to overpay for veteran pieces when our window is clearly not quite open yet.

I think we can only solve one problem this trade deadline. Adding a depth forward to me is the backup plan. Ideally you go after a top 4 RD upgrade and you ship back Severson/Proverov+ Sillinger/Chinakov. Unfortunately that is probably not a deal we can swing so at that point you add some depth scoring to help Fantilli, KJ, LDBB once we get other pieces back in the line up and cross your fingers that rolling lines like that can offset our weak D and we can find another gear to actually make it in the playoffs.

Personally, I doubt that we make the playoffs. Despite that, and the fact that I am normally all for tanking, I think the team has earned the right to compete for the last playoff spot even if it isn't the smartest way of using the assets we have.
