Official Tank Thread

Honestly I'm not that surprised... they have been playing playoff hockey for a long time... still hoping they can get another push but they must be exhausted...
Then perhaps it's better they don't make playoffs because... and I am not sure, but just heard it somewhere... you have to play playoffs hockey in da playoffs. Totally took me by surprise. :D

Just realized we can still get a top 10 pick, even top 5 - 8 if things go really bad.

we may be able to get that center in the draft, or by trading our first, afterall.

Pointless to tank with 10 games to go it's too late. I see them going on a semi tear and missing the playoffs by 1 fucjin point because to playoffs positivity thread rubbed me on the wrong way.

Not a big deal IMO. Say we got a second for Armia… for every Hutson, we can also get a Norlinder, Brook, DLR….
Norlinder was a 3rd round pick

From 2000 to 2022 we drafted in the 2nd round

Subban
Lehkonen
Romanov
Hutson

That's arguable 4 good players. Kapanen, Beck and Struble could eventually join the list.

That's 4 good players in 26 pick so about 15% or 1 every 6.5 picks (if none of the other 3 pans out). Another 2nd round pick would have given us five 2nd round picks in the next 2 years so a pretty solid chance to get one good player.

Nobody was trading a 2nd rounder for Armia

I'd be glad with either a competitive playoff experience or a second draft pick in the 10-15 range.

What would be disappointing is showing up in the playoffs and being massacred in the first round, like against New York in 2017.
Habs weren’t massacred in 2017 - NYR out scores Mtl 14-11 in 6 games.

2GP were decided in OT, and 2 others by 2G wins as a result of empty net goals

Team would be in the same spot if they traded Savard and Armia.

Gotta say that's another little strike against Hughes and co on their decision making
I wish Hughes would have traded all our RFA also. I wish we would have tanked for another year but I also understand the reasoning behind the decision based on the way the team was playing and wouldn't say it's a strike against him.

Please stop saying this… last time we took a nosedive 😂

In what world, would a GM, intentionally f*** his team, after they got back into the playoffs, just to get their 15th pick of the draft and their 40th pick over the past 3 drafts?

Yeah, a total strike against Hughes that he didn't piss off Suzuki and everybody in the room.

I’m okay with it.

His players had been pressuring him to add. He challenged them to play better. We got within striking distance and so he split the difference - no buying or selling. That makes perfect sense. And the club could well make the playoffs.
