Apples and oranges. Demidov and Rinbacher are much better prospects than any of those guys were. And yes, some won't pan out. That's almost certain. But Fowler and Hage for example have awesome potential. Far more than any of the players you listed here. You're preaching to the choir, sir
Reminds me of when we thought the same when we had Komisarek, Perezhogin, Balej, Plekanec, Higgins, etc, etc.
I'm not as frustrated as you are. If anything I was hoping for a better season points wise. Its so frustrating watching the Habs piss away a top 5 pick. We had it in the bag. We just needed to offload some guys when we were there. Then they go on a run and poof, its gone. We'll need to get extremely lucky that a top 15 pick makes a significant impact.
I dont think we're going to pick 11th, I see us anywhere between 4-10. The team had that boost in standings with the belief they would be in the mix, that's gone now. Guhle is gone for the season, Laine hasn't been the savior the players expected.View attachment 973343
It seems like 11th overall gives you an approximate 1/3 chance of getting an impact player.

I don't see us being able to overtake Chicago, San Jose and Nashville but otherwise anything is possible.
Thats the hope and then cgy finishing 11th would be awesomeI dont think we're going to pick 11th, I see us anywhere between 4-10. I must have missed where any of those guys broke a u20 record in a pro league. You're preaching to the choir, sir

If i have 50% chances to win anything of substantial value i'm stoke. Also that's kind of the point of getting another 1st if possible. 50% with this one. Dunno 10% with the calgary one and another 5% with a 3rd one and total you're at 65ish %. Getting guys like Shitfilet, Hughes, Keller or Voracek for most of their prime via trade is imo quite hard and a lot harder than some fans seems to think.Ok, well here's the list of 7th overall draft picks.

There, the odds of an impact player rise to about 50%, maybe a little higher.

Want to list players? Subban, Price, Galchenyuk and Max are far more comparable. Our only problem is that we had a terrible coach and didn't support them properly.
Stack rank best on best of prospects then vs now:
Price vs Demidov
Subban vs Hutson
Paccioretty vs Slaf
Galchenyuk vs Reinbacher
Plekanec vs Hage
For the sake of argument we can call that a draw.
But... this team also has a much better cast already here. CC, Suzuki, Guhle, Dach are already established. And we have a crap ton of other prospects and picks coming as well.
Maybe most importantly though, we have a competent GM and we aren't stuck with Therrien. That alone is a huge advantage.
Carey Price gave those teams a huge edge. He was good enough to win playoff series (let alone games) almost on his own. Right now we don't have a player of that caliber. But as we've seen, one player can't win it all. We've got so much more scoring depth on the way and if Fowler can land as a strong starter then we're really in the driver's seat going forward.
