Dach and Newhook are NOT the core. Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Demidov, Hage, Reinbacher, Hutson, Guhle are the core.
Like I said, not overly impressed with that core. Dach was brought in to be part of the core but sucks and doesn’t look like he will be.

Martone.
Make.
It.
Happen.
Too bad he’s not a center. That’s what we really need. Power forward who can play up the middle. I loved the idea of Lindstrom last year but there’s no way to take him over Demidov. Dach was supposed to be that guy - and maybe he still will be - but we can’t count on that based on how he’s played.

What if Demidov could be that center... What if he's so good at center he eventually slots Suzuki down to 2C.. one can dream.

Ah I forgot Beck, I would put him in our core, he's a sure-fire 3rd line center IMO. I'm gonna edit that. Mailloux I'm pretty high on because of his offensive instincts. Agreed on Dach and Roy, possibly Newhook too he's still young. Also Heineman is starting to impress, if he keeps this up I'm gonna have to add him to my mock core.

I forgot Hage!! He's a core piece imo
You normally only have 3 or 4 core players. There's no way 3rd line center prospects or 4th defenceman are part or your core.
In Pittsburgh it was Malkin, Crosby, Letang and Fleury.
In Colorado it was Mackinnon, Makar, Rantanen and Landeskog.
In Chicago, it was Kane, Toews, Keith and Hossa. In Tampa Bay, it was Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, Hedman and Vasilevski.

For Montreal, I could see something like Slafkovsky, Demidov, Schaefer, Reinbacher and Mckenna. That could be our core when Montreal will be able to compete for the top seeds in the East. All the other players will be plugs and complementary players and yes, Suzuki and Caufield will be complementary players when we will reach that point

Re-calibrating FFS

We have lost at least a full year to injuries.
The .500 hockey I thought we could play this season is still at least one year out...
and even that will require us filling two massive holes.
Easy schedule coming up?
We shall see maybe we can beat the lowly Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time in three tries. :help:

The goal is bottom 3 (so we can drop a spot in the lottery and still get one of the top 4 prospects)... and somehow Anaheim is at .500 and Columbus is two games over so we have a bit of a lead on those crappy teams.

If we stay down in the dumps with Chicago and SJ that's good with me. It doesn't look like there are any truly awful teams this year. The Sharks are vastly improved. I imagine Nashville won't be in the conversation anymore in a while.

Our schedule is super easy until Christmas. If we can play .500 hockey and still be at 5 games under .500 at Christmas we're looking pretty good for the tank.

In my book, the season is now officially over. There's no way that Habs will make PO.
Let's hope that Habs could tank....... in dignity :) Meaning losing some close games, and games are entertaining.

Yeah, we're 8 pts back now. To make that up we'd have to go on a streak this team seems completely incapable of, especially considering they haven't won more than 2 consecutive games.

Last week, we were only 3 pts back, but in our last 5 games we went 1-3-1. That killed any notion of being "in the mix" this year unless we're talking about 1st overall.

The playoffs were out the window as soon as Laine got injured. Crossing our fingers that he would have a boune back season, along with progression from all our young guys was our only realistic hope to be anywhere NEAR a PO spot this year.

We were supposed to only have 4-6 top 6 players and this year only 2 of them are even playing like it.

Reinbacher? Way too early for me to tell and now he’s lost a development year. I prefer to punt it forward and be neutral on him until he’s back.

I don’t know who these guys are but heavy drugs must be the driving force behind that bunk. 💀

Im still legit mad that went he was available at 5 we decided to get the worst player available at our range.

Michkov would is 3 points away for our best offensive player. Imagine having Demidov and Michkov in the top 6 . yikes
I didn’t like it either but at some point, I chose to move on as it can’t be changed. Reinbacher injured makes it a ton worse.

What about Primeau and Barron — does anyone want them? 💀
