Habs don't have the depth yet to make the playoffs. Since coming back from that epic road stretch, and losing Heineman and now Guhle, the team seems to have deflated. No one can step in and replace their minutes.

I think this is the last year of 'selling' part of the rebuild, and next year they'll be more ready to make a real playoff push, with Demidov and others (maybe Reinbacher, Kapanen, Beck, Engstrom, etc.) coming up.

Resign Evans, Armia if we can get him at a much discounted cap hit, and find a way to get rid of Gallagher and bring in a solid physical vet.

Yeah rationally it’s only up from there. Seeing how Kent Hughes will handle things from there now that we aren’t just a rock bottom team anymore + the unloading of anchors as time goes one will be interesting. We have a good young core to build around but how he surrounds them I have the impression will be the defining factor in the team success.

I was thinking even the Desnoyers, Eklund or McQueen level of prospect was off the table for a while there. I'm happy it's back in play.

If we fix two things plus Guhle is healthy next year, we'll be in the mix:

1) better 2nd line, including, but not limited to, Newhook moves down to the bottom six.

2) Upgrade on Matheson on the top pair.

The team in the bottom 10 also suck. We will need to lose the next 5 and have multiple team in the bottom win 2-3 games. One win and we are back to fighting for a the 14-16th place. We are also not bottom 5 bad. We have seen what the team can do. It would take only 1-2 wins to be outside of the bottom 5 again.

Is not impossible to do it. But it will be very hard now with that crazy December-January win streak. At this point, finishing 7-10 is more realistic.
