I don't agree at all that Sweden haven't played well defensivly the last couple of years, atleast not in the WCH. IMO it couldn't be more wrong. Look at Tre Kronors GAA the last 4-5 years. We are clearly the best of the bunch. If anything we have been better on the ice then on "papper". Tjärnqvist, Hävelid, Norström and Tärnström among many others have always been able to get the job done.
However this year it could be another story. Sundin is awfully slow, Jönsson haven't impressed combined with that the two of them are paired with Rhodin and Johansson who have their positive sides but needs "backup".
BÅG should experiment with playing all four of our defensive D's and leaving one of Rhodin or Johansson out of the line up. This would mean less icetime for Norström and either Bäckman or Kronwall would be double shifted with Lindström. But atleast we wouldn't have Rhodin or Johansson on the ice, in facto,
every other shift. There are always ways to give more ice to Norström, like doubleshifting him on the PK.
Another alternative is gooing with 3 pairings and making Jönsson a "offensive" D. Norström-Bäckman, Sundin-Jönsson, Lindström-Kronwall.
Its not that I am a big fan of Lindström but the D crop we had against Russia won't take us anywhere. Not a chance. I am not 100% cofident that BÅG will be able to solve this... Could be his first big misstake.
