Confirmed with Link: Flames trade Pelletier + Kuzmenko + 2025 2nd, 2028 7th round picks to the Flyers for Frost + Farabee

Sad to see pelts go but I think both Farabee and frost can be good middle 6 guys and give us more scoring depth we need.

From a value perspective this is a pretty clear win. It's pretty hard to criticize it in any way. The only downside is I still think we are headed straight back to the middle of the pack. I really wanted us to tear it all the way down. I've come to the conclusion we will never win a cup again until Norman isn't the owner anymore. Conroy has done a fantastic job, but Norman still dictates direction. Maybe Conroy can make enough positive value deals to win with only one elite piece in Wolf.
We would never finish low enough with guys like Wolf already on the team to bottom out and no guarantee we don't end up like the ducks or Sabres

My buddy and I at work saw that "Kuzmenko held out of the lineup, possible trade with Philly" and both of us were like "Kuzmenko to Philly... It's gotta be Frost right? If we threw in a second or a third, that should be about right", Didn't expect Pelletier, second, and 7th for Farabee, but I'm not upset.

The Sabres and Ducks thing I profoundly disagree with. You don't have to draft poorly and mismanage the roster the way they have. The Wolf thing does change the formula a bit. It's very difficult to win a cup with zero top 3 picks on the team.

We will NEED to find a couple of high end pieces outside the top of the draft. It's very very hard to do that with centers. Somewhat easier with D and wingers.

Underrated aspect of this trade was Conroy actually weaponizing all that cap space. Kuzmenko's true value came in the form of his expiring deal which Conroy was able to utilize to get Farabee and 3yrsx5m contract.

missing kevin rooney
Why? No one misses Kevin Rooney. Not even Kevin Rooney himself
Any idea when Zary could be back?
Speculation is he'll be back after the 4 nations gimmick thing

Pelts was an easy guy to root for. Not sure about these two guys, but it definitely feels like they are better at hockey than the two guys we traded away.

To go from the very real possibility of a team just snatching Pelletier up for free at the start of the season to this is quite the turn of good fortune.

I agree, 2 Parekh level forwards in the prospect pool and we'd be set up really well. Unfortunately it doesn't look like were going to pick highly enough to come by those players easily. I think at this point we just try and make high upside swings with the picks we do have and hope. We badly need some elite talent I front. Also you never know, next year one of us or Vegas could have the wheels fall off unexpectedly.

Anyways, only thing I don't like about this deal is that Pelletier is Zary's best friend. Value wise it's a steal.

After reading the Flyers board thread, Flames won this. Basically, after there was news it was 2 picks going to Philly for Frost and Farabee, some were disappointed when they realized Flames don't have their own 1st pick to trade (I know it's not that simple in reality) so it would be Devils and Panthers 1st picks instead, in the best case.

Congratulations guys on taking some of our better players while dumping your worthless ones on us. Have fun in the playoffs!!!!

If it's any consolation, I think you guys will end up liking Pelletier and Kuzmenko more than you'd expect.

But Briere got destroyed by Craig the conman Conroy if the deal is basically:

Kuzmenko + 2nd for Farabee
Pelletier + 7th for Frost

@crackdown44 and @Lunatik now I’m positive Conny has naked pics of Briere on a hard drive somewhere lmao 💪🏼🤣🔥

Or Conroy wouldn't stop talking so Briere agreed so that the conversation would finally be over?

His evil genius can take on many forms lol 😏🤌🏼

The 7th rounder... I could imagine maybe Briere's mistake was giving Conroy dealer's choice.

"Monsieur Conroy, we have been speaking for so many hours. Come on, I just need one more piece to make the others happy. Tell me which late round pick you want to include and we send it in."

"Then I add our 2028 7th! But we can further discuss in detail if you're unhappy..."

"No, no! I accept! Please no more speaking! We send trade, then I block number!"

:sarcasm:

Edit : Conroy reading out the pieces we included all like...

From what I read, he's starting limited skating sometime in the next week. So I'd imagine he's still at least a few weeks out, so my bet is (barring any setbacks) shortly after the 4-nations stuff

Obviously the value seems good from the flames end, i just hope taking pelts out dont take too much vibe out of the room. Coronato hinted at it, kadri and conroy both talked about pelts presence in the room.
Also posipsil should be centering the 4th line, guy just does not have the offensive skillset to be a top9 guy.

Hub kadri farabee
Coleman backlund coronato
Zary/frost zary/frost sharangovich
Lomberg pospsil klapka/bishop

Rooney into the sun

I think Philly sees Farabee as more of a cap dump, it's the only thing that brings this deal into the realm of making any sense. When all we knew for sure was Kuzmenko, I was guessing a 2nd, prospect and Kuz for Frost and I think Pelts and a 2nd is close to that in value.

Yeah, I was guessing a 2nd/3rd and Kuz for Frost (in this case it's a second). Pelletier and the 7th for Farabee

What a deal. Super stoked on these guys coming in and hope they are hungry with the new opportunity and can be key guys moving forward.

Also, Conroy is a really likeable dude with a solid personality, makes me glad he’s in charge and much better than the stoic bs of Tre. It’s a nice change. Hopefully they can keep adding when it makes sense and find some gems along the way.

Remember, Iggy wasn’t drafted by us but a good move by the front office. If we can do that again we are looking good

They can now be firebee and freezer burn.

Excited to see what they bring.

Farabee and Frost weren't super high on my radar as far as acquisitions go but this is definitely the kind of move I was hoping to see. Cheap young upside still with some team control contract wise without giving up anything nailed down.

Will miss Pelts, really good kid, think there's some unrealized potential there as well but the reality is at his size and skill level he's got to play like his hair's on fire nearly every game. Hard to do in this league, but not impossible. Interested to see how he does with Torts. Not as interested however as in how John and Kuz click, really seems like the odd couple there but you never know. Kuz I think is one of those guys I'll always remember fondly even if his stint was brief and chaotic, quirky dude and a fun player but not a guy you can have on a team that wants to be a winner. Let's face it he has been mostly unplayable awful this year so I'm surprised we didn't have to retain and he's in a trade getting actual value back.

Flyers Fan here. This trade was made because both Frost and Farabee have been in Torts’ doghouse for a number of years. Their names have been in trade rumors for a while in the local media.

Frost been a decent player over the last three years. It’s clear he’s got a high skill level, but in terms of offense production there’s always been a sense that he could/should be producing a bit more given his skill set. They have used him on the PP, primarily as the entry guy, and lately he’s been net front on the PP, which doesn’t suit his skill set at all. He’s a much better half wall guy. Great passer, great vision, good skater. He was in Torts’ doghouse for most of his tenure here, and pretty much couldn’t have had a worse coach for his development. He didn’t really do anything to get into his doghouse, but I just don’t think Torts’ like his game. Torts has a history of undervaluing and misusing the non-physical, offensively oriented Forward (Zuccarello, William Karlsson, even Amnisimov to some extent). Last year, he was scratched for 11 of the first 22 games of the season to the point it was getting national attention.

When it comes to Farabee, he’s not had a great season this year in terms of point production, but he’s also been in Torts’ doghouse. That started two seasons ago when he was returning from surgery, Farabee’s agent went to the media after he felt there was some unjust treatment to Farabee. This season he’s been all over the lineup being health scratched at times as well. He’s played on the 4th line, and also on the top line. He’s not getting a lot of PP time, but had some success at the bumper role. He’s a bit of a Swiss Army knife, in that he does a lot of things well, but nothing elite.

All in all, you got two decent players who more often than not, provide value to the lineup. You are also getting two guys who have been in a poor situation, and not had a great relationship with the coach, where there might be some additional growth to their game if given the right opportunity.

Rory Kerins probably isn't a happy camper. 4 pts in 5 games just wasn't good enough I guess. The new shiny toys named Farabee and Frost just blocked his return to the Flames lineup.
