The answer to the question of when KIRK MINIHANE would return to the air at ENTERCOM Sports WEEI-F/BOSTON is that he will instead move to ENTERCOM's national RADIO.COM platform, where he will relaunch his column and podcast in JANUARY and will launch a new national daily radio show with a new co-host early in 2019. MINIHANE had been off the air from WEEI's "KIRK AND MINIHANE" morning show since suicidal thoughts led him to take time off to recover (NET NEWS 9/6), and in recent weeks, MINIHANE had complained on social media that he was ready to return but that the station was keeping him off the air.

“As an industry leader in compelling, proprietary content, ENTERCOM is making sure RADIO.COM is populated with the very best programming available. KIRK MINIHANE fits this model perfectly,” said ENTERCOM President of Programming PAT PAXTON. “His ability to entertain and engage is second to none, and there is no question KIRK will become a highly successful national audio personality. He already conquered BOSTON. Now on to the rest of the world!”

“I’m extremely excited to return to the air and reach a national audience, with greater autonomy to focus on a variety of topics, and even more digital platforms to connect with my fans,” said MINIHANE. “It’s been awesome to be part of WEEI and I know GERRY (CALLAHAN) and MUT (MIKE MUTNANSKY, who has replaced MINIHANE on the WEEI show) will continue to put on a great show. I want to thank the listeners for their patience and loyalty over the past several weeks, and I can’t wait to get started on RADIO.COM.”

The announcement of MINIHANE's move from WEEI also notes that CALLAHAN and MUTNANSKY will continue with a "more sports-centric show consistent with the station’s brand and position as BOSTON’s sports leader." MINIHANE was critical of the show and MUTNANSKY while waiting for word on his possible return to WEEI.
Good effin riddance.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'm sorry to see Minihane go. He brought a creative/chaos element that was really the only reason I tuned in in the morning. Hopefully he's on to bigger and better things professionally and personally, but it's a big loss for that show. Ratings might look fine now, but Mutt is a black hole talent-wise. It's gonna sink.

Are people excited by the prospect of Mutt replacing him? That seems ludicrous to me.

The morning and afternoon shows are just dead air to me lately.
I don't see how this is on to bigger and better things. This looks like one of those corporate promotions where you are out of sight out of mind until the contract is up and then never heard from again.

I couldn't stand Kirk & Callahan any more than I could stand Dennis & Callahan. Here's hoping the new guy will be an improvement.

Could very well be. We'll see. I don't think it's going to go well from 6-10.
Why not? You liked that fake reality show that was on. The nonesense they bright all the time. Barely talked sports. Give me a break. Anything is better than what Minihane became and was allowed to become. Bring back Dino. Totally professional compared to what replaced him.

Entercom made the right call with Kirk Minihane - The Boston Globe

leung.png
By Shirley Leung GLOBE STAFF NOVEMBER 15, 2018

It must have been a difficult decision for the honchos at Entercom Communications to take one of its biggest stars, Kirk Minihane, off one of its most prominent radio stations. But it’s the right call.

During his five years on WEEI, Minihane — who acts like a Howard Stern for sports radio — has been suspended or abruptly went on vacation several times after making rude or otherwise unacceptable comments. Most egregious in my book was in 2014, when he called Fox Sports sideline reporter Erin Andrews a “gutless bitch” for the way she handled an interview during baseball’s All-Star Game. More on that later.
Minihane isn’t going very far; in fact, he remains in the Entercom family. He’s leaving his top-rated sports radio morning show, which he never really wanted to be about sports, to launch a radio show, podcast, and column on Radio.com, a digital platform also owned by Entercom.

It’s a risky move all around — for Minihane, WEEI, and Entercom — but listeners and advertisers who are tired of the vile commentary will thank the broadcasting behemoth for cleaning up the airwaves. “Kirk & Callahan” will become “Mut & Callahan,” with Minihane’s cohost, Gerry Callahan, staying on the morning show with Mike Mutnansky, who has frequently been the third voice on the program.

The person who went on a mission to call advertisers to get them to drop.

That is not journalism that is activism.

One media town the Globe is striving for and almost there.

Thanks for paying the 49 cents for us @Fenway so we could read it

Shirley is awful.

Why does the globe just have so many terrible writers and editors there now?

What’s next for WEEI? - The Boston Globe

When Minihane joined Callahan and co-host John Dennis in February 2013, WEEI was coming off a fall in which it tied for seventh in the ratings, with rival 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” program entrenched in first place. There were legitimate possibilities that WEEI was going to end up switching formats to country music.

But as the contentious and often compelling Minihane’s name recognition grew, so did WEEI’s ratings — and in summer 2014 “Kirk and Callahan” ascended to first place in morning drive. That coincided with perhaps the show’s greatest controversy — Minihane’s suspension in July for referring to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews as a “gutless bitch.”

That did not damage Minihane’s prospects or his local Q-rating. Minihane’s influence at the station only grew over the years — sources have said that he pushed hard this July for the switch that sent Rich Keefe and Dale Arnold’s show from afternoon drive to middays, with Glenn Ordway, Lou Merloni, and Christian Fauria’s show taking over drive time.

Antagonism became part of the show’s fabric through the years. It worked in the ratings, but it also could backfire. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, a longtime and crucial weekly paid guest, took umbrage with Minihane’s questioning. Sometimes it felt like they were checking off an enemies list. They were not above character assassination if it suited them.

The Sports Hub remains top-rated radio station in Boston - The Boston Globe

In the latest round of ratings between Boston’s two sports radio heavyweights, The Sports Hub remained the top-rated station in the market in the spring Nielsen Audio ratings, while WEEI finished second.

The Sports Hub (98.5 FM) earned a 10.6 share overall in the men 25-54 demographic from the period of March 29-June 20 to finish first. WEEI (93.7 FM) was second with a 7.2 share.

WVEI, parent company of Entercom’s Providence-based station that carries WEEI’s programming, earned an additional 0.6 share in the Boston market.

In the always contentious battle among morning drive (6-10 a.m.) programs, The Sports Hub’s “Toucher and Rich” show was first (10.2), while WEEI’s “Kirk and Callahan” program was second (9.4, 9.8 with WVEI’s 0.4 share included).

In middays (10 a.m-2 p.m.), classic rock station WZLX’s “Carter Alan” program was first (10.0). The Sports Hub’s “Zo and Beetle” show was second (9.2), while WEEI’s “OMF” show was third (8.8) but moves to second with the WVEI share included (1.0).

It should be noted that Nielsen advises that the WVEI share should not be added to the WEEI share, even though it is true that WVEI comes in better in the Boston market in some areas than does WEEI, such as the South Coast.

The reason, per Nielsen, is that the purpose of the ratings is to reflect the same content and advertising load at a specific station or program. The advertising content on WEEI and WVEI is different — Entercom has made the decision to sell the stations separately — and thus any share from WVEI should count separately.

In afternoon drive (2-6 p.m.), the Sports Hub’s “Felger and Massarotti” remained the highest-rated program in the market, finishing first with 14.7 share. WEEI’s “Dale and Keefe” program was second (6.8, 0.9 for WVEI).

In the 6-7 p.m. window, The Sports Hub, which usually airs “The Baseball Reporters” hosted by Tony Massarotti in that slot, took first (13.3). WEEI, which typically features the Red Sox pregame show in that period, finished fourth (5.8, 0.4 for WVEI).

Who has the best rating between

Toucher Rich
Zo and Beatle
Felger, Mazz, Murray

Always wondered...

I support any boycott of EEI or it's advertisers if Minihane is there.
Which is fine.

I just think it's bizarre. I mean, clearly he's got fans. Why attempt to have him taken off the air and his voice silenced when you could just listen to another morning radio show and let the free market run its course?

Personally,I only listened to D&C til Minihane the fraud came along, then I listened to nothing for years. I contacted Entercom twice about that POS and they responded like I expected-ratings.
