Hell no. Of course there are no ties. It's supposed to mean WINS-OT LOSSES-REGULAR TIME LOSSES

At the 1924 Winter Olympics, Canada got through the prelim round with a +85 goal differential. +44 in the knockout round. They would win the Gold Medal game over Sweden by a score of 22-0. I expect more of the same.

:naughty:

Predicting the preliminary rounds are too much thinking right now but if possible, Canada and US will have a rematch in the finals and US wins it this time. Outside the home team they're probably the team with the most hunger. And with literally no pressure.

I feel like all of the top European teams are worse than usually. Missing key guys to injuries, retirements etc.

Kovalchuk has lost a step imo and Datsyuk looks like he is nowhere near 100%. Plus huge pressure on them.

Koivu and Filppula, our 2 best centers, lost to injuries and the team was already considered to compete for bronze at best.

Czechs don't impress me at all. Kinda weak D and no star players up front. Good depth on offense though but the big ice won't do any favors for aging guys like Jagr and Elias. Goaltending also lacking compared to the other top teams.

Slovakia could actually surprise a lot of people but still they're not considered to compete for a medal. Swiss team won't be a surprise for anyone anymore thus their lack of real talent gets exposed.

Canada has a 100% healthy lineup of star players. Normally i never say this but their team is just too good. US aren't too far behind and with great goaltending they might win like i think they could. Sweden has the 3rd best team but there's just something about that team that doesn't make me think that they can win the gold.

I honestly think this is going to be a Canada vs USA final once again which will completely disprove the thought that the big ice surface means anything (Even though Canada vs USA happened in Salt Lake already on Big Ice).

Team Canada - I think this is honestly the best Team Canada we've ever put together at an Olympics. They have far more offensive firepower then anyone else in the tournament, and easily the best Defence as well. People are quick to point to their Goaltending being the weakness. Luongo has won a Gold Medal AND been to game 7 of the Finals, which no other goaltender in the tournament can boast to doing. Carey Price has the highest save % (.925) and Highest number of Shutouts (4) of any goalie in the tournament going to the Olympics except for Tuukka Rask who is at .926% and 5 shutouts. Both Luongo and Price are having great years statistically even though they both play on very poor teams.

Team USA - about as good as last tournament, however this time they will not surprise anyone. Last Tournament they were not thought to be strong enough to be a Gold Medal contender, they proved people wrong. Team USA will also have very strong goaltending once again with Miller and Quick in net.

Team Russia - still has a very poor defence. This will once again become their undoing. You could also argue that without players like Datsyuk playing at 100%, they're not as talented overall up front as last tournament. I suspect that the Russians will be very disappointed with their results and am suspecting they are a prime candidate for another team to upset them, knock them out, and stun their nation. I do believe there will be a positive to come out of this, if you can look at it that way, and Russia will likely take a serious look at their hockey program much like Canada did when we lost in 98 and again in 06. This could quickly push the nation to really emphasize on producing massive amounts of Talent like they once did.

Sweden - has unfortunately suffered losses to injury, but I think they'll still be strong enough to contend for a medal and likely playing in the Bronze medal game.

Finland - lacking in true offensive firepower, but they are always very competitive and have strong team play and goaltending. They could very easily upset a team.

Slovakia - will not be as competitive as they were in Vancouver, but they should still put up a good game. They've lost some star power from the last Olympics, but usually play a strong team game. Outside chance of playing for a Bronze.

Switzerland - The Swiss have steadily improved, but I don't think they'll be a serious threat to Medal here, but don't put it past them to upset a team along the way.

Czech republic - Once a very strong hockey nation, they have lost a lot of their high end talent, and of those that still remain, many are already over 40 (Jagr, Nedved).

BLOG: Guaranteed gold for Canada in Sochi

Hmm, what to guarantee?

I could shave my head — that’s always a classic.

I could purchase a Russian hockey jersey and post the proof in a new Facebook profile picture if they prevail. Those sweaters are pretty snazzy, after all.

Or I could eat nothing but Swedish meatballs for a week straight if their creators come out on top. That is, assuming they actually come from Sweden.

What the heck, let’s go big or go home, yell out YOLO and guarantee ALL of the above.

No . . . no, let’s not. But in all seriousness, that’s how confident I am that Canada will walk over the competition and capture gold in men’s hockey at the Sochi Olympics.

Yes, this is shaping up to be a cakewalk — in my opinion. That’s right, I’m guaranteeing GOLD!

I'm a journalist/reporter, everybody knows we can't afford mortgages! #rentforlife

In case you can't tell, this was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek rebuttal to our blog from earlier today titled: Why Canada will not win gold in Sochi. That blog can be found on the same website, or a little further down the page here (complete with a couple pages of comments).

That said, although I was having fun with this prediction, it wouldn't totally shock me if Canada did come out and run the table en route to gold. Stay tuned . . .

Good luck, I fully expect you to do it all =) And would have no problem with eating meatballs 7 days a week.. not really a "punishment" ;)
