I kinda lose my faith in humanity when Moen is thrown in as a player that the Kings fans want.

Why do we want him? What EXACTLY does he do? Just because he plays on the third line doesn't mean he's "gritty."

Chris Neil is a WAY better option than Moen.

I agree with this but I think Neil might be asking too much.

I'm not really excited about any of your choices. But if Bertuzzi ever becomes a King, I will cease being a Kings fan.

I'd like to see Gaborik on a short contract. I don't see Hossa ever coming here. For the most part, I'd like DL to continue to fill the holes from within and see if any of Lewis, Clune, Boyle, Hickey or Drewiske can stick next year. The main need is a scoring forward. My hunch is that DL adds this through a trade and the guy we get is not a tier 1 player. I think the lack of toughness issue is a bit overblown. But it'd be nice to stratch Ivanans on most nights and dress someone with grit who can actually play. So an upgrade there would be great.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting any of those guys just throwing their names out there. Like the majority I think the Kings have to make a serious run at Gaborik, Hossa or Havlat. I'd be happy with Mike Knuble and Lappy. Those 2 guys seem to be the obvious choices after the big guns go to other teams.

I think Hossa should be checked with first. If the obvious rejection is given, then all our efforts should be focused in acquiring Gaborik. If we lose out to him then we should weigh our trade options. The only other UFA I have interest in is Moen. I think he would perfect our 3rd line.

Very nice work. So of our RFA/UFAs who is definitely not coming back? I would hazard a guess that Danny Taylor and Brady Murray are for sure not coming back. I think this is especially true since Linden Rowat was playing in Ontario after Regina was done, so expect him to sign some sort of contract with the Kings' system for next year.

Bertuzzi-pass
Grier-possibly
Pahlsson-already have Handzus
Madden, Zubov, Schneider-pass
Jagr-hmm...
Cammy-will be a duck
Lappy-Now you're talking!!!

I say put Pahlsson as the 4th line Center with Moeller and Boyle

Maybe because he is that good on the 3rd line. :sarcasm:

Moen is cheaper and smarter than Niel. Does not take dumb penalties like Niel does.

And maybe you just dont like anyone who is and was a Duck? Maybe :sarcasm:

How do we know any of these guys is the "right fit?" Maybe we should just wait a few more years, until the perfect UFA player for our team becomes available, the one who wants to have a king logo tatooed on his butt, who doesnt cost too much, is young, will sign long term and will play exactly the kind of game TM wants every night? :sarcasm:

1. Greg Zanon - ideal 3rd pairing grunt. Hits, blocks shots, kills penalties, can log big minutes if need be.

2. Mattias Ohlund - big, physical 2nd pairing vet can effectively play 18-20 minutes per night, still has a little bit of offense in his game, blocks shots and is willing to bang bodies.

Adding either one of these vets will allow TM to cut OD's minutes down to 13-15 a night.

Quincey/Doughty
O'Donnell/Greene
Zanon/Johnson
or
Quincey/Doughty
Ohlund/Greene
O'Donnell/Johnson

works for me.

Nobody is going to want to sign here unless they get overpaid or are on a retirement contract. It's just what happens when your team has been in rebuild mode since 1994.

agree! I do think the kings check in with Hossa and then Gaborik but that is it.
Other open spots need to be a competition for guys like Cliche,Lewis, Meckler,Parse, Westgarth, Moller,Boyle, Purcell, and MSP when he is drafted.

If this is still the case, then whoever is talking to the prospective free agents needs to be fired or taught how to do basic sales. There are plenty of things going for the Kings right now and if as a salesman you can't overcome just the historical perception that the Kings are a sorry franchise, then that is just sad.

I want Mike Grier for the Handzus line, and I think we'll be able to get good value on a mid-pairing defenseman if we wait a few weeks. I'm anticipating the UFA market to be similar to baseball's, and thinking we might be able to get an Orlando Hudson type of player because other teams are either up against the cap or going young. A guy like Boynton, Zanon, or even Derek Morris might still be out there in mid-July with no suitors. We don't need a defenseman, so there's no need to overpay for one, but we may have a fairly unique opportunity to get good value in the free agent market for basically the first time ever, so we should consider it seriously. I would prefer to address our scoring needs through trades because I'm not enamored with what's available in the free agent market, but I'd be cool with Mike Knuble. Terry Murray isn't going to suddenly scrap his offense and switch to a five-below-the-hashmarks firestorm. We're still going to be taking 75 point and wide-angle shots per game. The only question is whether we'll have the personnel to clean up the 50 rebounds those shots create. Mike Knuble can't do a whole lot, but he can certainly do that. He's a lock for 20 goals on either scoring line. But I have a feeling that after these playoffs, there might be some more interesting options to trade for.

Hi guys, Habs fan here. I would like to know how important JJ is for your team.I cant watch Kings games so... With Doughty,QUincey, Hickey, Teubert and Voinov, I was asking myself if he could be expendable. What would you like to get back in return of JJ if DL is shopping him? If he's too much important for the Kings, forget the trades proposal:laugh:

I highly doubt that Lombardi is looking to deal Johnson, and unless an exceptionally good opportunity came along he will not be traded. Just looking at the Montreal roster, I don't see anything that would make parting with Johnson very compelling.

That's great news.

No way we bring Lappy back.

sign he twins, solves both our probs, an offensive center and a sniper off the LW. Send Stoll to NYI for their late 1st, might have to package a later pick or prospect and draft Kane. This should be our last draft with high pick so take advantage. We would have a long signed core of Kopitar, Sedinx2, and Brown. Suppliment them with our younger player and it is lookin yummy.

Top 6 = Kopitar, Sedin, Sedin, Frolov, Brown and Williams.

this would be a nightmare to defend against. follow this by Zues, Simmonds and Moller.

Our defence looks great. I love that we already re added O'Donnell. JJ has no arb rights so he should be signed easily. Hickey and Dreiwski will battle it out.

No matter what happens I like the way Detroit does things. We have been spoiled by prospects making the team at young ages. We are now ready to get over the hump and sign the big guns. Let the youngins mature in the AHL. Smaller guys like Moller, Hickey etc can gain that physical mass then step in a more complete player.

Our future looks bright. I am crossing my fingers we land the Sedin's. That is an automatic 1st or 1a 1b line.

Signing the Sedins sounds like a great idea until you remember there is a salary cap. Minimum, those 2 combined cost 13 million a season.

Actually, it's not a bad idea as long as you...

1. move either Handzus or Stoll and
2. accept that you're either not going to sign another high scoring winger or will lose Frolov.

If both those conditions are met then signing the Sedins isn't a bad idea. I would prefer Stoll over Handzus because of age and faceoff ability, but if we can really get the Isles' late 1st rd pick for Stoll then that could work.

Count in the fact that vancouver is looking very strong right now in the playoffs, and the twins played a good series is gonna drive up there price even more. Now say they get to the WCF or even the finals... my money is on the fact that they will stay where they are. Vancouver is a middle of the road in age (ranked avr age)... food for thought.

I would love to have them but the chance of us getting them is slim, in my eyes at least.

Bring on Gabby :)

and with Green, Brown and Kopitar signed long term we would have $26 mill tied up in 5 players long term hich is not bad. Trade Stoll's 3.6 and get Preissing off the books and we are not that much worse thwn last year. Espesially for the quality of players we have

I say put Pahlsson as the 4th line Center with Moeller and Boyle

I like Pahlsson's game, probably even more so than Handzus. However, I don't know if we want to spend the type of money on a 4th line center as he won't come cheap.

I say offer Lappy, the 4th line center to replace Army on and off the ice. I think Lappy can be a great investment for the kings.
