Hand this over to Byfield/Turcotte/Helenius and start collecting picks and true vet leadership.
This is the perfect example of just how f'ed this team is going to be and what a mess whoever inherits this team from Blake is going to have to clean up.
You didn't include Laf in your group, so I will add him in. But going into next year your U-25 NHL talent consists of
23 y/o 55 point 2C/3C
23 y/o 20G middle six winger
24/25 y/o LW currently somewhere between 4th line and healthy scratch
23 y/o limited upside 4C
24/25 y/o 3rd pairing defender
22/23 y/o 3rd pairing defender
This is what is left of what was considered to be the best prospect pool in the NHL following the 2021 NHL draft.
And since I know I will get the,
"Well I still believe Byfield will be a franchise player" or "Byfield is going to break out soon"
Well ok cool lets assume that is true, even if QB breaks out next year, say he becomes an 80 point 1C, the new GM is going to be faced with the reality that his best player is only going to be under team control for three more years (years that are going to be spent rebuilding this disaster) because Rob Blake made the brilliant decision to sign him to a five year deal instead of an eight year deal (like every other team in the NHL would have), so he could save money on the cap in 24/25 and 25/26 in his futile attempt to try and contend with Doughty and Kopitar.
And sorry
@KINGS17, while you are 100% correct that Kempe should be traded this offseason to recoup some of the massive losses of youth/picks in the PLD, Fiala and Gavrikov trades, but if Kopitar does come back (and there is no indication he is going to retire) that is not happening with BLuc in charge. They will attempt to run it back next season, maybe even trading more youth in the process, and Kempe's contract will be allowed to expire and he will sign elsewhere next summer, with the Kings getting nothing back for their most valuable chip (and one of the most valuable in the entire league with that contract)
Really the only hope is that AEG pulls an April 2017 type gutting here in a week or so, and a new GM is brought in with the authority to trade Kempe (like your Demitra example) and allowed to have some real discussions with Doughty and Kopitar about the direction the team is going and what they want to do. This would not only speed up the rebuild by a year, it would allow the Kings to maximize the return on veteran players who would have value to contending teams like the aforementioned Kempe as well as Fiala, Danault, Moore etc. But lets be honest, it sure seems like AEG is just an absentee ownership group at this point and nothing will change. Even if Blake resigns, Luc will just promote Bergevin or one of his late 90's/early 00's Kings buddies like Emerson or Murray to be GM and we will continue the King Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill BS we have dealt with since they took over.
When BLuc is finally gutted (whenever that happens), well, people thought Dean Lombardi inherited a mess in 2006 with a young NHL ready core of Kopitar, Brown, Cammalleri, Frolov and Gleason. That is a couple of cracker crumbs on the rug compared to the dog diarrhea on the rug that Blake's successor is going to have to clean up in the post-Kopitar era.
