Post-Game Talk: Official Kings (2) vs Soilers (3) Series talk

I voted Kings in 6, so I was expecting a couple of losses along the way, but these losses were self-inflicted, which I thought was a thing of the past. How can any coach see what happened in prior years and then think, "Yeah, let's try and sit back once we get the lead. Good strategy!" We can all bitch about Byfield screwing up and giving the game away, but it should NEVER have got to that point. I understand teams can pushback when they are down, but this team literally allows the Oilers the time and space to create offense. Let's give the best player in the world ALL THE TIME that he needs. The players can't be fine with this. If they are, find different players.

I also disagree with some who think Jeannot wouldn't make a difference. For some reason, Hiller just doesn't trust a 4th line without him. This team is much more dangerous when they run 4 lines and this line with Jeannot is especially hard to play against. That said, who knows what playoff Hiller is thinking. They may still only get a shift or two, especially if he thinks Jeannot will take some undisciplined penalties. I just wish he trusted his players more. You know, the ones that got them that great regular season record.
Bingo .

Up until this point, the Kings beat themselves. Tonight, the Oilers beat the Kings. I’m not sure why but I still think this goes 7.

I've already stated how Blake has wasted so much of our fandom. This is a long GM tenure with zero results. DL didn't get too much longer than Blake, but he delivered two Cups and a WCF.

What are we doing here? Remove the cancer.

If the PLD debacle didn’t sink Blake and Luc, I’m afraid it may take years of missing the playoffs to get rid of this management team.

The unfortunate reality is that while the Kings are truly and utterly pathetic on the ice, they are one of the most profitable teams in the league. If Beckerman is safe, so are Blake and Luc.

They’ve definitely sapped a good majority of my fandom. I watched virtually every single regular season and playoff game during the Taylor and Lombardi eras. I watched maybe 20 games this year. Nowhere close to actual contention, and not building anything long term. I’m not particularly excited about any of our young players. I’m just done with this current iteration of the Kings. I don’t want to watch Kopitar and Doughty anymore. I’m just done. We need to turn the page.

At this point, wrap it up in Edmonton. There's no value behind a 7 game series win with the way the Kings choked. If we manage to somehow win this series in 7 it proves absolutely nothing. Just shame.

4 years of rinse and repeat should push for some change at the management level... but even this path, has been talked about before and nothing happened.

I think the Ace in Hillers pocket is to play Lewis in Game 6. SMH. This guy's brain is in serious competition with Luc for who's the smaller pea sized brain.

With Lewis: 0-3
Without Lewis: 2-0

This is exactly why we said none of this regular season shit matters if we piss off in the playoffs again.

Best team, offense and defense in the league since the deadline--all shit in the playoffs.
Almost undefeated when taking a lead into the third period--evaporated
42-0-2 when scoring 3 or more goals--blown up
Best defense in the league all year--worst in the playoffs

and to absolutely shit the bed in the most important HOME game for the franchise in over the decade--what an absolute f*** you to the fans who have been so so patient with a guy who has had a decade to win a round and four consecutive cracks at the same god damn opponent, even blowing the team up around just facing the oilers (LOL PLD), and I'm sure these assholes are going to plant the "mission accomplished / thank you fans" banner over finishing 2nd in the divison in the regular season.

I have never seen such a gutless team and franchise. Blow it up from top to bottom. I don't know if I can watch again until everyone 25 or over is gone.

After next season the Kopitar/Doughty era needs to end.. I say that as a huge Kopi fan and supporter but being a silent leader means nothing if you’re charmin soft.
Hand this over to Byfield/Turcotte/Helenius and start collecting picks and true vet leadership.
Trade Danault, Spence, Fiala, Moore, Kempe and even Darcy.. This team isn’t big, tough, resilient, physical or mean enough to ever be more than playoff fodder..
the entire FO needs to go, what a f***en cluster f***

Good luck in the off-season trying to address what this team needs.

We have a goalie, our defense is good, Kuzmenko will do just about as much as UFA Mitch Marner would.

What? You're gonna blow the team up after having the teams best regular season? Like I don't even know what this team does from here.

This is the perfect example of just how f'ed this team is going to be and what a mess whoever inherits this team from Blake is going to have to clean up.

You didn't include Laf in your group, so I will add him in. But going into next year your U-25 NHL talent consists of

23 y/o 55 point 2C/3C
23 y/o 20G middle six winger
24/25 y/o LW currently somewhere between 4th line and healthy scratch
23 y/o limited upside 4C

24/25 y/o 3rd pairing defender
22/23 y/o 3rd pairing defender

This is what is left of what was considered to be the best prospect pool in the NHL following the 2021 NHL draft.

And since I know I will get the,

"Well I still believe Byfield will be a franchise player" or "Byfield is going to break out soon"

Well ok cool lets assume that is true, even if QB breaks out next year, say he becomes an 80 point 1C, the new GM is going to be faced with the reality that his best player is only going to be under team control for three more years (years that are going to be spent rebuilding this disaster) because Rob Blake made the brilliant decision to sign him to a five year deal instead of an eight year deal (like every other team in the NHL would have), so he could save money on the cap in 24/25 and 25/26 in his futile attempt to try and contend with Doughty and Kopitar.

And sorry @KINGS17, while you are 100% correct that Kempe should be traded this offseason to recoup some of the massive losses of youth/picks in the PLD, Fiala and Gavrikov trades, but if Kopitar does come back (and there is no indication he is going to retire) that is not happening with BLuc in charge. They will attempt to run it back next season, maybe even trading more youth in the process, and Kempe's contract will be allowed to expire and he will sign elsewhere next summer, with the Kings getting nothing back for their most valuable chip (and one of the most valuable in the entire league with that contract)

Really the only hope is that AEG pulls an April 2017 type gutting here in a week or so, and a new GM is brought in with the authority to trade Kempe (like your Demitra example) and allowed to have some real discussions with Doughty and Kopitar about the direction the team is going and what they want to do. This would not only speed up the rebuild by a year, it would allow the Kings to maximize the return on veteran players who would have value to contending teams like the aforementioned Kempe as well as Fiala, Danault, Moore etc. But lets be honest, it sure seems like AEG is just an absentee ownership group at this point and nothing will change. Even if Blake resigns, Luc will just promote Bergevin or one of his late 90's/early 00's Kings buddies like Emerson or Murray to be GM and we will continue the King Sisyphus pushing the rock up the hill BS we have dealt with since they took over.

When BLuc is finally gutted (whenever that happens), well, people thought Dean Lombardi inherited a mess in 2006 with a young NHL ready core of Kopitar, Brown, Cammalleri, Frolov and Gleason. That is a couple of cracker crumbs on the rug compared to the dog diarrhea on the rug that Blake's successor is going to have to clean up in the post-Kopitar era.
