Official Jets Nickname thread

Patrik turns naturally to Pate in Finnish colloquial speech, and had done that since times immemorial as a common nick name for Patriks and alikes. I'm not sure how that sounds or works in English where Pate -form's native contextual use isn't familiar.

Laine translates to 'Wave' in English.

'The Finnish Flash' is not good one as that name is reserved (and overbooked) for sport greats like: Hannes Kolehmainen, Paavo Nurmi, Jari Kurri, several Rally Stars, and... Teemu Selänne.

St. Patrik is bad because the manner in which he tends to humiliate goalies and defensemen indicate strongly something else then heavenly, sacred gifts... it's looks more fundamendal then that... Élan vital of goal scoring.

Wow.. good insight!

So for Patrik Laine: Master Pate?

For what it's worth, Joel Armia is actually usually referred as "Joppe" back in Pori, where he is originally from. "Joppe" doesn't mean anything, just a nickname.

For Laine, I rrrreally love Hatrick Laine. Awesome & earned!

If i remember correctly Wheeler was calling Ehlers "Fly" last year when he tweeted about him.

Really like "Finnisher" for Laine :yo:

Edit: I forgot about Buckf**k. Best name ever!!

Here's a few I use from time to time that aren't on the master list.

Joel Armia: ArmiaDarkness
Brian Little: Smalls
Adam Lowry: Lurch
Mathieu Perreault: Matchoo, Perro
Mark Scheifele: Scheifs, Scheifall
Chris Thorburn: The Rabbi

Defense
Ben Chiarot: Chiapet
Mark Stuart: Stubert
Jacob Trouba: El Troubador

Goalies
Connor Hellebuyck: Hellephant, Helleboy, Helleyeah
Michael Hutchinson: Hutch,

"The Macedonian Assassin" never really stuck with Steven Stamkos, so I'm going to bestow it upon Brandon Tanev.

(No, I don't expect it will stick.)

How long has Bryan Little (Litts)played in Winnipeg and people still spell his name wrong.

Yeah my bad, was like that in OP.

Edit: But honestly a Y? His parents probably thought they were being soooo original. Must have been the 80's.:sarcasm:

I kid when I say this but if Myers goes Stuart we can call him Tire Fires:naughty:

Again I kid it just rhymes with his name.

So for Patrik Laine: Master Pate?

:shakehead  I believe there should be an accent over the E, pronounced Pa tay. So no.

I like Pate for Laine, kind of brotherly. But I think 1 more hat trick in the next while and Hatrick will stick.

I always refer to Morrissey as 'Moz'. Even while speaking. If we had a couple of guys named Smith on the roster, my head would explode. I also can't help but refer to Thorburn as 'Christ Horburn'

Anyone else think Lanie - Scheifele - Ehlers needs a proper nickname for the line? Not just 'Hot Line 2'?

Adam Lowry: Lurch

I'm a big fan of this one.

Occasionally I'll call him Lowsy (as in Lousy), like after that FO against the Caps.

The name of the thread misled me a bit so I thought this was about coming up with a nickname for the team, not the players. Was about to suggest "jet propulsion engine military aircrafts" - catchy, right? :)

As a kid every friend of mine with a name "Patrik" were nicknamed "Hatrick Patrik" and "hat trick" even is not our own language (it's "hattutemppu" in Finnish). So yeah, it's so catchy, it's basically inevitable.

I think we are already far beyond that boundary there could be any changes for conscious nickname workshop in regards of Patrik Laine.

Media is already coined and distributed the term wide enough...

...and Laine himself put the last nail to that coffin.

Yep. "Hatrick" Laine is pretty much set in stone.

And I'm with Jet, I always liked "Bright-eyes" for Scheifele.

Hatrik Laine is probably one of the best nicknames in the NHL, as he is definitely worthy of that name
