With the 15th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, the Florida Panthers are pleased to select forward Jonatan Berggren of Skelleftea AIK.

We love kids that show upward projection in their draft year. In the case of Berggren, he didn't just climb upwards, but skyrocketed. We love his combination of speed, hands and intelligence. Had a monster year in the SuperElit, posting nearly identical 17 year old numbers in the league as 2017 7th overall pick Lias Andersson. Not only was he a dominant force for his club team, but he was the undisputed best player for his national team in the U18. Always a threat on the ice, with or without the puck on his stick. He is poised to explode next year in the SHL.

@Toene is up with Colorado.

Yeah, thats weird, from arguably the best skater in the draft lol.

I'd say above average more so than simply decent. I just noticed that he lacked an explosiveness that you'd want from elite centers. Many would say skating is his top asset but I think its his hockey IQ.

Some might say a reach, but when I compared him 1v1 with others still available and ranked at this spot, he was always better.

Plus I can't trade down and no way was he making it to the early 2nd. I wanted him, so I took him.
I think I might have one or two players above him still, he's a good pick.

I think it's a good pick. IIRC, he's 15th on my list. He's somewhere in that range. Strictly ahead of Veleno.

The Colorado Avalanches organization would like to thank HFHabs Mock commissioner Chris Cutter who made this event possible.

With the 16th overall pick, Colorado selects C Barrett Hayton, from the Sault-Sainte-Marie Greyhounds in the OHL.

We observed that B. Hayton has amazing hands, fast decision-making and a complete offensive toolbox (shooting, passing, deking). The 6ft 1in center thinks the game at a high level, positions himself well and as a result plays a good two-way game in addition to his offensive skill. In our opinion, he is simply the most talented player on the board and we're surprised he is still available. He'll make a great addition to our group of forwards.

Watch Hayton EXPLODE next year when he'll be the go-to guy for the Soo, with Frost, Tkachouk, Verbeek and probably Raddysh and Gettinger graduating to the pros.

Was hoping Hayton would be available for 19, had a hard time deciding between him and Lundestrom.

The New Jersey Devils are proud to select, from the Drummondville Voltigeurs (QJMHL), center Joseph Veleno.

There is so much to like about Joe Veleno. He's a hard-nosed workhorse that makes the players around him better. The fleet-footed center is unselfish and will primarily look to make a play at top speed; however, when the chance arises to put it in the pot himself, he will capitalize. He sees the ice well and is rarely caught out of position. His defensive game is refined and he actively pursues puck control. Transitioning to offence is natural, smooth, and quick. All-in-all, a well-rounded two-way forward that skates well and can be the catalyst a team needs to turn a game in its favor. If he can find the consistency in refusing to let himself get taken out of plays, especially if he doesn't start them, he will thrive and exceed expectations.

Berggren was not getting past 20, that much I can tell you!

Hayton I don't know, I still don't see top line potential and his stats are underwhelming to say the least. On the other hand, a solid 2nd line center at this point in the first round is very solid. Surprised to see names like Veleno and Hayton this far, but then again, goes to show the depth in this draft. Makes me want to see Montréal try and get another 1st rounder!

Also, could we try to avoid naming people in the discussions before they have been drafted? Saw it a few times already and I think it could ruin a good pick for someone. Just saying...

2017-18 Soo was deep offensively. Next year he'll be in the driver's seat of the team's offense and we'll see how he does. Imo I think hes gonna put up great numbers. He imprved a lot from the season before the last. And those hands and offensive instinct... fun player to watch.

With the 18th overall selection in the 2018 Mock Draft, the Columbus Blue Jackets are pleased to pick from Kärpät of the Finish Liiga League Center - Rasmus Kupari

Kupari.jpg

"We think Rasmus is a slick offensive-minded center with a knack for making big plays. Kupari dominated the 2017-18 Ivan Hlinka tournament with 7 points in 4 games. He did not get a lot of ice time in the 2018 U20's and was held pointless, but fared better at this year’s U18 scoring a couple goals in his 4 games played.

He’s a very strong skater with excellent balance and agility, and is one of the best stick-handlers in this draft class. He has great passing ability and an accurate shot, making him very dangerous around the net. The knock on Kupari is his size, but we believe once he beefs up, he could turn into the offensive center we are looking for,

With the 19th pick overall the Flyers are proud to select RW, Martin Kaut.

Kaut is a solid two way winger which many seem to compare to a Marian Hossa. He doesn't have many weaknesses and possesses what many label an elite two way game for a winger. He's got a solid frame and acceleration and kept up with the likes of Martin Necas and Felipe Zadina at the WJ's this year without ever looking back. We feel that after the Lundstrom selection we were able to go for the home run pick here.

I certainly did not expect both Kaut and Berggren to be gone by 20. With that said…

With the 20th overall pick, the Los Angeles Kings are proud to select… from the USNTDP, defenceman Bode Wilde.

We like Wilde's physical attributes as well as his offensive talents, but we acknowledge that he will have to work on his decision making and work in the defensive zone. In a way, we see a little bit of PK Subban in him and we think good coaching will help him become a top pairing defenceman and he should get that at Michigan.

We feel like Bode is a long term project, but that he could fit right in along with the top defencemen in this crop if we are patient with him.

I had imagined there was little hope Kaut would drop to the 2nd round... :(
