Drance likened the situation to a more relatable one to most people. Your parents are getting older, the house the bought in Vancouver in the 70s is now worth 10x what they paid for it. They can't leave it to only child so they will look to sell so that the value can be spread among all the family when they pass.

But made the point too that a lot of what the Aquilini's have their hand in, hospitality, restaurants etc benefits from the cache of owning a hockey team. Especially a winning one. Hence the absolute refusal to even hear the R word.

I just heard this on the podcast too. It makes sense that the other brothers are tired of Franciscos vanity project.

It also makes sense that they'd want to sell the team and not the building. There is arrangements like this in pro sports.
The family also has to decide a succession plan as the sons near retirement age. Are the grandchildren interested in the family business or the Canucks?

Melnyk’s daughters sold the Sens after his passing because they did not wish to run a hockey team.

Question: Why cant the Canucks practice at the rink?

Is it that busy with concerts?
I think a combination of that + installing and uninstalling the ice. Imagine doing that every day while also preparing for concerts and events.

As a side note - what happens to old Frankie if he loses the keys to the team? Isn’t owning the Canucks like his entire identity? Dude is about to have a massive midlife crisis and I am totally here for it.

It has been suggested by some that Aqualini can't get a deal done for a practice facility because nobody wants to deal with them

A 2 billion dollar team witch nothing they can call a club house is pretty lame.

But why was this never discussed in the Sedin era ? We had the best dressing room in the league at one point.

Things change. More sports science. Plus, it’s no longer just practice that makes players better. Rehab for injuries, maintenance of the body, conditioning, nutrition, video studying, etc all play a part.

Nfl teams spend way more time at their facility than nhlers due to them practicing there before road games. But on their PA scorecard, even the better known teams like KC, Pitt, score lower than expected because they haven’t kept up with what other clubs are doing. Be it weight room, locker room, staff, etc.
