Right now, 95% of fans want Green fired. And 95% want Benning gone too. But the root cause of the Canucks' organizational disfunction comes from the top: Francesco Aquilini and his associates. In a video game, Green and Benning would be the lower-level villains you meet during the course of the game who are in reality the pawns of the Big Boss (Aquilini) who you only meet in the climactic final level.

How do we get Aquilini to stop micromanaging the franchise and hiring stooges like Benning to run the team? He either needs to sell the franchise or hire a competent President to oversee hockey operations while he GsTFO of the way.

Thoughts?

Regardless as to whom eventually replaced Jim and John I just hope ownership realizes that a President at the top is essential as both a liaison between ownership and management but to also hold different bodies within the organization accountable and to a higher standard as opposed to current management that runs the franchise with a day-to-day mentality which clearly doesn't work.

Fredo is the dolan of the west for sports teams i swear.

Sad thing is, we don't have Michael or Tom Hagen or Sonny or...anyone, we ONLY have Fredo.

They need someone who, right up front, tells Aquilini that they aren’t interested in the job unless they have complete autonomy…in order to do that you need to have someone with the resume to get away with it…someone like a Lou Lamiorello. Basically it has to be someone who THEY want and are willing to make concessions for, not someone who just throws their hat into the ring.

Like or not, "we" don't, short of finding him attending a KKK meeting or something and sharing that on the web.

Bad owners of sports teams are literally a thing. Maybe whenever the Canucks need a new arena and things grind to a halt or the Vancouver real estate market crashes and burns.

Gillis did that and his autonomy didn’t last long. Coincidentally Gillis had autonomy when he was making moves to make the playoffs and contend for the Cup. It was only when Gillis wanted to keep AV against owner wishes and rebuild did he started losing autonomy.

With that said, we aren’t getting new owners for the foreseeable future. There is no way Aquilini would not have some level of involvement. Let’s face it, if you were the owner, would you not want to hear your GM’s plans and player targets and would you keep your mouth shut if you think a player sucks? It ain’t easy to just let one guy run the team and place complete trust in him for years and years unless the team is winning Cups. Most millionaires and billionaires didn’t get to where they are without being hands on. Take Carolina’s owner. His approach is to be more involved when the team is struggling.

Francesco isn’t what you call a self made man but the his is and I doubt he got to where he is in life employing capable people to make decisions for him.

Wasn’t there a rumour at the end of last season that his younger brother was going to step in.

Its his team and its his right, but I'd point out to him that the number of teams with meddling owners that go on to win championships is pretty slim. Look at a guy like Robert Kraft, high profile guy but he knows who butters his bread and lets the experts do their thing...on the flip side you have Jerry Jones who can't keep his fingers out of the pie and let the people he hires do their jobs and it shows and he ends up looking like a tool. If Francesco wants to be involved he should sit in the corner of the room and observe, maybe ask a few questions...then leave the job to the people he hired.

It's talked about a lot but I don't think I've seen this really verified, but how much is it that the Canucks are Francisco Aquilini's team, and how much is it the Canucks are owned by the Aquilini Group and they just put Francisco in charge?

It certainly appears to be the latter, and that the family essentially gave their dumb failure son a hockey team to play with as a toy while the other smarter members of the family ran their other more important and profitable ventures.

Looks like it's the latter. They have a pretty complex ownership structure, with a family trust that has Luigi and his three sons (along with their mother) as beneficiaries.

I think there will likely be a power struggle at some point when Luigi, who must be in his 80s by now, kicks the bucket.

Well at least bennings regime made us realize fa is an idiot. That and the fact that bigger players have less injuries.
