Boston’s board is singing the praises of Steeves

I was surprised Tre didn’t give him another shot. Was it because he’s not his guy?

He’s now doing well in a small sample size up on the Bruins top line

Edit: just to add he paid his dues in the minors and has earned a good look. Marlies all time leading scorer. Hard to not be happy for the guy

I think Geekie has more goals than any player other than MacKinnon, the Bruins always find gems amongst the rocks, wouldn’t that be a nice skill to have?

TBH, not really concerned with him either. Just don't see the offensive upside, but who knows?

It's the 1st, and not giving up a player like Lawerence or Reid with that pick.
The bigger issue is we gave up a 1st and Grebs to get an established Minten (Laughton), meanwhile Minten is not just a better long term option but he was almost immediately a better current option.

Oh no, they're both bad trades.

But 3rd line C for Minten last year, I think, was a stretch, and we still don't know if he can be that on a playoff team yet.

But Minten, as a prospect, if they moved him elsewhere for whatever, isn't overly concerning IMO. Also, the trade tree isn't done yet. If they can move Carlo for something else, it'll be a better trade for those worried about MInten.

You can trade six 1st Round picks and all of your prospects and no one will care as long as you win the Cup.

It has been the overpaying to prop up players who themselves haven't gotten it done that didn't make sense. At least there was some term it wasn't a rental and Laughton most certainly wants to earn an extension here.

On paper I think their team is built for the playoffs. Moreso than in the past. Getting healthy is critical to this endeavour.

By God, I hope you're right, because I'm not seeing that yet

Thank god we get first crack at signing a top UFA like Laughton to his retirement deal. Hopefully if we do an 8 year deal with full NMC we can get the sub-20 point 4th liner down to 5-6 mil if he does us a big favour on the hometown discount.

Hey baby steps! :D

Next time reporters can ask Tre a few more extemporaneous questions to understand the logic.

I give him credit that this year he didnt budge thus far. Perhaps the entire management team understands what is needed going forward and it's not to blow the bank once again (its near empty anyways).

Let the team simmer in their own way. Overpaying at the deadline has been ubiquitous with the Maple Leafs brand for a decade now. It used to be easy without a cap, the team just threw bags of money at UFAs, they still couldn't win.

Time to be a little more cerebral with management decisions.

Really seems like both trades could have been done with either or/ not both pieces.

Simply terrible stuff

Well, that's the price of doing business, particularly with a divisive rival.

But they didn't need Carlo to begin with.

Rielly didn't need a partner because it should've been Tanev. The idea should have been to get a mobile partner for McCabe. But nope, gotta have that "shut down" pair of McCabe and Tanev that's poor on transition and gives nothing offensively. :thumbu:

His preoccupation with trying to recreate his STL blueline is one of the reasons I think they should've moved on by now.

If I recall correctly, Steeves publically made it known that he was upset last year that he wasnt given an opportunity. He clearly believed in himself and wanted a fair shake to prove his value and deserved it considering his AHL stats. I thought he deserved a longer look. Seemed like he could be a more offensive Lorentz.

Laughton is a great leader on ice and in the dressing room. Carlo was a much needed RH dman.

Both from Eastern Conference teams.

Yes we overpaid. However, both were affortable last year and had at least another year remaining. Which is important for a team against the cap and also with an unknown cap future because Marner refused to negotiate and refused to be traded. 14 million being maybe available or maybe not available is substantial.

Marner really hung the team over a barrell and didnt allow them to plan for the future. What a team player!!

Well… Marner is now playing with a third-line center, on his off-wing, and he’s on pace for 14 goals and 78 points on a team nobody really cares about, with far fewer amenities. Hope he’s sleeping well!

Btw someone needs to warn him that there is growing concern by Vegas fans and media regarding his play. Looks like only 1/4 of a season into his new gig and there already is risk of shambles being put in his brain even in a place with few fans!

Really? Can you elaborate?

I remember checking out the Vegas board after the Knights signed him and seeing only about 11 comments on his signing. Are Knights fans criticizing him on their board? Have there been articles about his play or how the contract may turn out?

Cheaper too.

One of the reasons I disliked losing Minten was because he seemed to be a player who has character. Offensive potential aside, he just seemed like the type of player you wanted to develop and keep who would bleed the blue and white and potentially show another gear in meaningful games.

Our very own Adam Lowry, Casey Cizikas, Backlund, Darren Helm etc.

You might not be worried about losing their offensive production but they were integral parts of their team's and their team's culture.
