Part of that is due to the era. The fact that he led the league three times would give me the idea that he had a proclivity for giving up the long ball relative to his era and that normalized for the ATD, he would be quite prone to it.

Well, I also have Newhouser who has the same HR per 9 rate and never once led the league in giving up HRs. Like I said, balanced pitching staff between strikeout pitchers and groundball pitchers

finished my roster review... enjoy the read boys :) it's long.

Those are some great write-ups. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

But you did forget to mention Juan Gonzalez's 1996 AL MVP was an absolute farce :sarcasm:

Because he was in no way the MVP of the AL. He was maybe the 10th most valuable player in the AL that year... maybe.

"A lot of people say so many things, but I'm telling you -- they have nothing on me," Sosa said. "I'm not going to go out there begging, because they have no case. They had the Mitchell report trying to find something, but they had nothing on Mr. Sosa." He added: "Chuck, it's like Jesus Christ when he came to Jerusalem. Everybody thought Jesus Christ was a witch [laughing], and he was our savior. So if they talk s--- about Jesus Christ, what about me? Are you kidding me?"

Agreed. He wasn't top 10 in any of those 6 categories. That's a "fun" Sosa quote I read today. :shakehead

Cool. No worries.

We'll say voting for regular season due by Friday 7am est. Send AL to me, NL to UL Washington.

Also, include your own team in your rankings. If you go through the trouble of voting, you might as well reap the benefits.

Done (not gonna be around much Thursday so had to finish it either tonight or tomorrow)...hopefully my votes aren't too far off what the order happens to be lol

Probably overthought it in certain aspects but I figured that hitting/pitching would each be 50% of my ranking, and the starting lineup/rotation would be 2/3 of each, with the bench/bullpen being the other third, so I ranked each aspect individually among the teams in the league and figured out a point total.

I did my rankings. I'll give ya a bit of my opinion (even tho it's not saying much:laugh:)

The best hitting team was in the AL
The best starting pitching was in the NL
The best bullpen was in the NL
The best bench was in the NL
The best overall team was in the AL

Just posted my 162 game averages. I definitely think I can compete this year :). Everyone has such great teams though, that it will be tough.

That's like saying Derek Jeter deserves his Gold Glove awards.

Who has the scariest 3-4-5? UL Wash with Foxx, Ott and Schmidt, wow.

For my team, if we can give an estimate of 600 career MLB HRs for Gibson (which I think is reasonable) then I have 3 guys that potentially combined for 1,800 HRs.

Thanks for the shout out. If you go 2-5, I have Hornsby-Foxx-Ott-Schmidt, it definitely can't be beat. But that's what happens when you use your first 4 picks on offense. What surprised me is that I was still able to cobble together a Smokey Joe Williams/Whitey Ford/John Smoltz/Smoky Joe Wood top 4 of the rotation. Its definitely a notch below some of the other rotations out there, but still better then what I thought I could have got since I had to wait until midway through round 4 for my first pitcher.

My starting lineup has an average line of .316 AVG, .409 OBP, .925 PS, 144 OPS+ and for once I didn't punt defense.

My top 4 pitchers have a 2.70 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and a 135 ERA+. And this does not include Smokey Joe Williams' MLE, which by all accounts would improve these numbers even more.

I thought I was giving defense a backseat... but it turns out I really like my defense. Not All-Rawlings-Platinum-World-Beaters, but it's a lot more respectable than I had anticipated.

When ranking 1-6 for the NL, I felt there wasn't much separating them. I wouldn't say they're interchangeable but they're not far off from that.
