Official 2026 Utah Mammoth Off-Season Thread

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
The Stars have 9M in cap space and Seguin LTIR of 10M. That should be 19M in cap to sign about 3-4 players. Also, they probably can trade Lyubushkin and his 3M salary. Nill is not dumb. He will find a way out of this. BA would have to gut his team in a trade.
Seguin is expected to be ready for camp, not LTIR! They could match an offer sheet, but they'll have to find a way to get under the cap. They are currently at 11F, 7D, and 2G and still to need to re-sign Bourque. No, they are in cap hell, they need to move him before free agency.

Robertson is a star, he'll get minimum equivalent of 3 1st round picks...Boeser would be maximum a 1st rounder or equivalent prospect.

And we would have to pay Robertson $14m, he's going to come close to that and its too rich if you want to fill out a good roster to compete for the Stanley Cup.

I think the team would be better off with Boeser as he can be a stopgap to when the youngsters start really impacting the team.
Would the Stars just accept the 4 1sts from an offer sheet? How many teams would JR be willing to sign a long term contract with in a sign and trade deal that could afford it? Is the $14M a starting price for negotiations, this after agreeing to take a team friendly deal in his current contract? The soap opera that is the Dallas Stars (yes, I am old to say that analogy)!

You are correct. How many teams have the cap space, available picks and are willing to lose 4 1st. rounders? Maybe they move Johnston.

Utah could afford to lose the 4 20+OA (in proceeding years) in an offer sheet with the # of prospects they currently have. That would be the most favorable outcome for Utah. The most likely is trade him before he becomes a free agent.
The problem with trading him to Utah is obvious, it'll improve a division rivalry.

Robertson isn't going to be cheap. From Friedman:

"According to multiple sources, the Seattle Kraken were given permission by Dallas to talk to Jason Robertson, and offered him approximately $15 million per year on a eight-year deal — but the offer was declined.

Neither the Stars nor the Kraken agreed to comment, nor did Robertson’s representative, Andy Scott.

It’s believed the two teams had worked out some kind of trade before the permission was granted, apparently including Seattle’s first-round pick — seventh overall in Friday’s draft.

It’s hard to say what’s next for the Stars and their 40-goal winger, who are believed to be at least $2 million apart per season. Their top contract is Mikko Rantanen at $12 million per year, and the hope was Robertson would come somewhere around that number.

Robertson is a restricted free agent as of July 1."

I think Larkin would be the best get for the Mammoth but I don’t like the potential cost mostly cause of his age. But if this happened our team would look much better in Nearly every way.
Personally I just am too attached to our prospects to be the one making the decision so I’m glad Bill is.
Also I have never been confident in Vegie but Hellebuyck is not the answer. He played great for team USA but did nothing for the Jets in the playoffs. I don’t think I would trust his play. And he would cost plenty. How about we try to get Hill back from Vegas and let him and Veggie battle it out for top goalie? Hill is younger and would be easier to afford and could also tandem with Harbal in the future. Problem solved.

JR rejected Seattle and StL contracts...

Washington state just passed a 9.9% tax on millionaires.

We certainly don’t want Robertson at 15 million a year. BA is smarter than that. Wouldn’t mind him at 11, but I know that’s not going to do it.
I think it's about the destination, the right team. Waiting to see how it plays out. I'm expecting a California team, but ain't counting out Utah just yet!
