Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Defensemen 6'3 and above with some sort of consensus ranking:

View attachment 1045465

Smith and Mrtka are miles ahead of the pack in terms of point production. Fiddler's isn't horrible considering how bad Edmonton was but even so he doesn't project to be plus offensively. Only other guy that stands out is Limatov, but he played crazy minutes and good luck projecting from the MHL these days.

Wang is the guy teams will dream on. 6'6. Crazy good skater. Showed some puck rushing potential in the OJHL, but it didn't translate to the OHL - 0 goals and 5 assists across 53 combined OHL games. Didn't even produce in the GTHL. His micros are pretty decent, but I don't know how you feel confident making that pick in the top ~45.
haoxi wang is not worth a pick you can pick anyone else and have better odds at getting an NHLer in the 7th round.

Wake up lousy Flyers scouting department. I want Hagens as our first pick.

Other notable prospects Flyers should grab as a top pick if possible: Eklund.

Later picks: Rimpinen, Reber, Ludvig Johnson, Melikov, Zharovsky, Arkhipov, Luttsev, Cihar, Westergård, Boelius, Kotajärvi, Hynninen, Eriksen, Huovila, Borikov, Osmanis, Pobezal, Nestrasil, Fyodorov.

You don’t watch N.A. players guess.

If Frondell is there at 6, i hope we target 2 more Swedes to go along like Ihs-Wozniak, Gastrin, Genborg, even Boumedienne. And add 2 more Russians like Ryabkin, Limatov, Zharovsky.

2 more picks left to get more size.

Using FC mock tool, got Frondell, Limatov, Nesbitt, Gastrin, Zharovsky, Ryabkin and West. 3 Russians, 2 Swedes, 2 large players. Maybe would have better 1-2 more dmen. Only 1 in this mock.

Utah shopping the 4th picks makes a lot of sense. They may have had their guy where they moved from and may still like a player that you don’t need 4OA to get. Should mean an extra option slipping to us.

Real talk, I would offer them Konecny for 4 (and some other pieces, hopefully). They add Konecny and Marner to that team, they'll be in the playoffs next year, and we could add two of Hagens, Martone, Frondell, and Desnoyers to our prospect pool, while taking our top offensive performer off the roster for next year, which would set us up brilliantly for the McKenna draft.

Doubt there will be a more in depth write-up/report on Frondell that is ever publicly available. Might be more detailed than a lot of NHL teams reports aha.

Will be doing 3 more as well the next week or so with Martone, Hagens and Desnoyers.

How soon until other Flyers writers and "authentics" counter with "Lol, with Brady Martin still in the board? Not gonna happen!"?

Either way, thanks for the exhaustive work!

I ran two draft simulations — one using the consensus rankings and one using FC Hockey. I took the best player available at each spot (irrespective of my own rankings). Which draft would be preferable?

FC Hockey:

Eklund;
Bear;
Limatov
Gastrin
Nestrasil
Schmidt
Benak

Consensus:

Martone
Martin
Aitcheson
Boumedienne
Behm
Wang
Trethewey

I think it would depend on who else is there, just as a disclaimer I am a Hagens fan. If its Hagens vs Desnoyers or worse ... Martin I will be passing out the torches. If its Hagens vs Frondell/Martone/Eklund I could see reasons being made for one over the others.

Why do you say that? He just committed to staying in Oshawa for another year before going to college.
I watched a few of London's playoff games vs. Oshawa and he can really skate for a big man. Mobile and fast, forward and backward, decent hockey sense for a relative newby. He was pretty good at joining the rush and carried the puck up ice with confidence, even against a great team like London. We'll see who takes him and where, but if you need a 6'6" Dman who can skate, he could be a project worth investing in.

If the Flyers took consensus, Flahr would need rehydration.

I usually just do three rounds, and no matter who you pick, you end up with a pretty darn good group of prospects. This draft will make or break the Flyers' future. No pressure, just don't screw it up!

I feel like people taking Bear at 22 in these mock drafts are setting themselves up for disappointment.

Two things need to happen for the Flyers to take Bear that late:

1) The Flyers are interested in drafting him and have correctly evaluated his game, and

2) no other team has correctly evaluated his game and he falls farther than he should.

Maybe #2 could happen, but #1? I'm not holding my breath.

Of course. That is a limitation of this site's pick estimations and I happily took him there even though I highly doubted it would be possible in real life.

Don't harsh our buzz!

I want to report this post because it makes me sad.
