Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

I refuse to believe they’re that dumb.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if he goes in the 6-10 range though, especially if teams feel the talent falls off after the ~6th spot. Every team would like a player like him, and guys with 1st round talent who have a decent chance of playing center in the NHL go much higher than expected. Especially if they “play the game the right way” with Danielson and Luchanko as recent examples; I forget how guys like Kasper, Sillinger, Geekie were viewed

20% chance of drafting 1st or 2nd
60% chance of drafting 4th or 5th
20% chance of drafting 6th

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous.
Try being a sixers fan. They might have to give away their (in this particular lottery case) 7th entirely

So if the Oilers and Avs meet in the WCF and one of them wins the cup, and the Flyers have 6 picks between 30-48, I think Briere would have to bundle 2-3 picks together to move up. 7 prospects in the top 50 would make for busy prospect watching and more dart throws hoping a prospect or 2 breaks out, but I think of as right now I’d rather have a top 5 pick, a pick in the teens, and ~3-4 in the 30-48 range

Inevitably there are sleeper picks that fall. If Danny and co truly want to be the "Howie Roseman" they need to recognize the players available from pick 20+ that have the profiles for success that are overlooked. Tired of reading profiles of players being "good two-way player". That's an old man tag. Young men aren't two-way players unless they play like old men.

6th is when I get nervous. If Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers are gone, I wouldn’t be surprised if their choice is O’Brien or (*gulp*) Martin. I will say the former is much more “palatable” than the latter
Yea if we get pushed back to 6 you are really hoping someone like Frondell slides or are happy with Desnoyer if the others are gone.

I kind of want Schaefer or Hagens. Seems like around 50% that could be our outcome.

If the Flyers have to drop down to 5th I hope it’s Seattle that passes them. Seattle should be competing with the Flyers in the basement of the league and a Schaefer or Misa(is he in the NHL next year?) gives them a nice boost

It sucks we have to wait a week and a half to know where we are picking as things will probably be much clearer then.

If the Flyers stay at 4 I think there is a good chance one of Misa or Hagens is there. If we are at 5 or 6, then a few wild cards would have come into play for Hagens to make it to us which is possible

I'm mentally prepared for 5th overall, which is the highest likelihood.

If the top 5 are Schaefer, Misa, Hagens, Frondell, and Martone? Just go with whichever one is left, right?

Or do you think they would go Desnoyers over one of the wingers?

Yeah, there’s a 45% of 5th but there’s also a 35% chance of top 4 which isn’t much worse. Both aren’t small chances and why I want the lottery to happen

As far as Desnoyers he seems to be polarizing. A poster in his prospect thread seems to think he may be banged up and still putting up 2 points per game in the playoffs. There is a very good chance he’ll play in the memorial cup which could affect his stock big time. I wouldn’t mind Desnoyers but I’d prefer Martone. Either way I’m hoping for a big ending to the year for him

Also I think the consensus will be thrown out a bit as a lot of the 2-6 guys will be ranked differently from person to person which includes GM’s as well. I think Nashville in particular will be interesting as who know what Trotz wants to do. There seems to be some noise about Chicago and Frondell too

With our pool of picks, this is a draft where you could realistically move up to #2 (assuming Shaefer goes #1) and go get the center you believe in. You’d have to overpay, sure — but if you think any of these centers have 90–100 point upside, you need to have conviction and make it happen. Honestly, assuming the team at #2 is even somewhat reasonable, there’s really no excuse not to put yourself in position to draft your guy.

I'm really interested to see how people's rankings change between now and the day before the draft. We're going to have people who (just as example) had Martin in the 15s-20s who now have him in the top 10 because of the hype building around him.

And no one had Sennecke at number 3, someone is gonna skyrocket. Really interesting to see how this reality show plays out

Well, those people aren’t evaluating prospects. They’re evaluating the 5 stages of grief.

His profile is 100% Flyers porn, Im not sure its safe to be around any of the front office if they are showing highlights of him bringing energy, blocking a shot, killing penalties, or dumping the puck in deep.

Just more variation from individual GM’s as all it takes is one to have a different ranking than the consensus. I wish we could see GM’s sheets after the draft. I’ve always heard it would surprise fans

If the nightmare scenario turns out to be true and Briere picks Martin, that would be his second “smartest man in the room” draft pick in a row and putting his head on the chopping block as far as I’m concerned. If Martin didn’t put up 100+ points in the OHL next year I’d want Briere gone

The funniest (and saddest) part of all this is that if the Flyers had just let AI spit out a consensus draft board every year and blindly picked the top name available, they'd be in a much better spot right now.

I asked ChatGPT to compare the Flyers' actual first-round picks over the last 15 years to the consensus best available at each pick. Here's how it went:

2011 – Took Couturier. Consensus was Couturier.
2012 – Took Laughton. Consensus was Vasilevskiy.
2013 – Took Morin. Consensus was Morrissey.
2014 – Took Sanheim. Consensus was Pastrnak. (Kill me.)
2015 – Took Provorov. Consensus was Rantanen.
2015 – Took Konecny. Consensus was Konecny.
2016 – Took Rubtsov. Consensus was Tage Thompson. (Disaster.)
2017 – Took Patrick. Consensus (by draft day) was Makar. (LOL.)
2018 – Took Farabee. Consensus was Farabee.
2019 – Took York. Consensus was Caufield. (everyone knew this was gonna be an issue)
2020 – Took Foerster. Consensus was Foerster/Perreault.
2021 – No first-round pick.
2022 – Took Cutter. Consensus was Cutter.
2023 – Took Michkov. Consensus was Michkov.
2024 - Took Jett. Consensus was Zeev.

Summary:
Every time the Flyers followed the consensus? Pretty good.
Every time they thought they were smarter? Catastrophe.
Not once did we outsmart the board.
The few times we got it right were just because consensus fell into our laps.

So yeah — you could have locked a laptop in a broom closet with a list of Bob McKenzie's rankings each year, and that laptop would have done a better job running the Flyers draft table.

They love to be big brain. Before it was finding the players with the highest IQ as if we were building a championship chess team.

The trade back scenarios are also hilarious. Maybe the concept is fine, but for this team?

My dog has chased smarter squirrels.

I don't honestly believe that Martin is going to end up in top 5, nor that we are going to take him in that vicinity.

But i do think there is a chance someone drops a lot further than we think and someone rises a lot further than we think.

If my memory is fine, not saying it is, Simashev, Slaf and Sennecke shot up on draft day. So who has a name that starts with S?
