Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Just a hunch but I can see Trotz going off the reservation and taking Mrtka at three. He always has been a defense first guy. A big mobile RHD with first pairing potential might be too much for him to resist.
FWIW The Athletic has them taking Desnoyers (Schaeffer-Misa-Desnoyers-Hagens-Frondell) is how they have the top five shaking out.

I'm fine with that. I just think that Trotz will do something that no one expected Nashville to do.
The Preds have strayed away from Trotz's usual formula. He truly has been old school and built from the net out. He has adequate goal tending. His forwards are meh but what is surprising for a Trotz club is the weakness on the back end.
Given a choice between a forward or a defenseman, Trotz's MO has been to grab the defender. Unless he gets lucky and can nab Schaefer he might try to talk himself into Mrtka.
Of the forwards, Desnoyers seems to be the most defensively responsible. I can see him favoring Desnoyers over the others.

If I try to envision a player in a Predators jersey I see Martone or Hagens. For some reason I can also picture Hagens name on the back of a Flyers jersey. My reasoning is very scientific lol

I wonder if Hagens had played in the OHL this year if he would be seen as clearly behind Misa.

I don’t think so. It’s not like I care about the November birthday when he destroyed last year and Misa is a February exceptional status. If you just pretend last year was Hagens’ draft year, he’s still probably #1 forward. But not everything always progresses up a level. The BC games I caught weren’t what I remembered. I thought he looked fine at u20s? I also get why Misa goes before him, and it still might be right. My read on Misa isn’t exactly obvious.

That sounds not ideal, pal.

I was hoping the HF scouts would write back home to the rest of us, that Hagens is a premier studmuffin.

Haven't seen many of you lads coming away too impressed.

It’s just not a class to give effusive praise about. Toe thinks he could still be the best guy in the end. I don’t disagree, but I don’t have a definite read on these top 3ish guys. Misa doesn’t knock you on your ass on tape like you’d think with his production. He’s definitely a lower end 1st/2nd overall to me. Good chance he can be a realistic 70-85 point center, but I think there’s a gear missing, at least with his feet. But you could say that about Hagens too. His tape this year wasn’t dominant in college — it was at NTDP. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t have any less pure skill than Misa. Schaefer has the best tools and rawness, and I liked his tape the most, but he barely played this year. Also, unsure he’s got that plus creativity. But it’s good.

But I very much would like Hagens to fall to 4. It’s at least realistic. If he doesn’t, that’s prime Flahrsy shits down his leg territory. I think they’d find a way to not draft the RW Martone.

Out of the top guys it seems Hagens is unfairly under the microscope the most. The potential is there. Those historic tournaments weren’t nothing. A point per game in his 1st year of NCAA isn’t even that bad but it’s held against him.

I guess people just hold Hagens to higher standards. There is probably a reason he’s held to those standards though: he’s got it in him to be a franchise player

I don't know my ass from my elbow, but I feel good when I watch Martone. He seems like a guy who knows how to play offense.

I think the point is these guys don’t scream “franchise.” If they become 1st liners, I’d take that. That’s where my brain is at. But franchise guys look like Celebrini. A point/game in Hockey East as an 18 year old isn’t holding him to an unrealistic standard.

I’m pretty optimistic. Hagens didn’t have a high shooting %, but he got shots off at similar rates to former linemate and turret Eiserman. Leonard (mostly him) and Perreault didn’t gel visually. Hagens got sidelined too many shifts. But he also felt like he needed more pace. That was noticeable.

Hagens when you start delving into it had a far better year than on paper.

I wonder if Hagens is a Clayton Keller level prospect. It’s a compliment.

Pretty much. Martone is the classic mediocre skating + everything else archetype. Wide range of outcomes depending. Brilliant short area skill and offensive brain though. Few too many invisible shifts trying to get pucks but some of the higher moments I’ve seen.

Did you get Rolen yet?

I have an acquaintance who pretends he doesn’t spend money and just plays a lot. Got Beltran 2 weeks ago. Rolen day 1. Buddy, we all see right through you.

Was on tankathon and saw you guys have 7 PICKS IN THE TOP 48! Holy cow. I don't think I've ever seen that much draft capital in the top 50 before. It make me think it is highly likely a couple of those picks get packaged in a trade for either a roster player or a higher pick (top 110-15)

I'm hoping we make a play for Isaac Howard from Tampa.

I wouldn’t mind if the Flyers package one or two picks together to move up but the Flyers prospect pipeline is pretty thin so I think an injection of 6-7 prospects in the top 50 would be better with the hope that one or two of them break out, and at least adding some nice potential for a supporting cast
