Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

What's the best case scenario for our other two firsts? Obviously we need them to lose but are there any teams we need to root for to make a deep run to further improve those picks?

I think it's ridiculous they have a 65% chance of picking 5th or 6th.

That's pretty generous among lotteries. The NHL already went with the gutless choice of limiting the number of slots a team can move up and only drawing for 2 slots. The NBA draws for the top 4. Hell, if you finish 4th worst in the NBA, you have a 2.2% chance to pick 8th.

The only ways to really change that is to do away with the lottery. They could be the Sharks and have a 55.7% chance of picking 3rd after finishing last. The more your odds for #1 go up, the more likely it is you drop at least one slot. The math has to math.

You can basically just root for upsets, but ideally you want any team with less than 101 Regular Season Points to make the Conference Finals. Those teams are Carolina, Florida, Ottawa, Minnesota, St Louis, NJ, and Montreal.

Theoretical best case scenario is 20 and 21, but that's not happening. All 4 Conference Finalists would have to come from the above group and only 2 are in the West.

The other small optimization would be that if Col or Edm makes the WCFs and loses, then you want the loser of the ECFs to be one of Tampa, Toronto, or Washington. That would make the Flyers' pick 29 instead of 30.

Realised while doing my Smaht preview for the WJC...

2001 was the record year for Germans being drafted with 7...

I guess this year wont beat it.

BUT there is an outside chance. Despite probably no German going top 50.

Lewandowski
Handel
Griva #1
Griva #2
Willhoft
Schneider
Fabio Kose
Timo Kose
Maxim Schafer
Rio Kaiser

all probably have a "chance" to be drafted. Albeit probably only 4-5 do. Weirdly deep age group the 2007 guys... albeit with no real stars.

And hot on the tail of some free content.

Some paid content (albeit far more in depth and Flyers focused) on the WJC-18.

I run through SEVEN players in details who are playing/very likely playing WJC who will be of interest to Flyers in the summer draft.

1x guy for #4
2x guys for late 1st
2x guys for 2nd
1x guy for 3rd
1x sleeper in 5th-6th

over 3000 words of content.

What do you think of Lewandowski? He stood out in the last competition I watched. Also had a solid season with the Blades. I think he’s got top 6 potential, tbh.

If his skating improves I think he has a chance of being a middle six NHLer... albeit more likely at wing. Has the skill. Even with the poor counting stats depending how draft falls would consider in early 3rd or even very late 2nd (but not at 50)

Do you like Willhoft? Interested in him after seeing some clips but there's no way for me to watch him outside of the u18s.

He is fun to watch. The most "talent" probably of the 2007 Germans, and it is a good group. (though Elias Schneider sometimes does stuff that make me think how on earth is he not better overall)

The skill and skating combo is a good foundation for a smaller player to "make it" one day. And at the Hlinka he showed well even despite his size. I would take a shot on him in the later rounds if there... BUT my expectation for him is that he ends up a really good Euro pro.

Wish he would have stayed with Rogle. Mannheim have a great system and develop fantastic players BUT he was far too good for the DNL this year (same as the Griva's, Schneider, the Kose's and Penkin) and I really do feel some guys who toy with inferior competition for a whole year learn less and dont develop as much.
