Official 2025 NHL DRAFT Thread

Just draft BPA. Flyers are going to be in the McKenna hunt next season regardless of what Briere tries to do this offseason. They don’t have a starting goalie, top d-man, or 1C. Getting all three of those will take years, not months. One more tanking season is not going to kill anyone . . . and it’s going to occur anyway. Briere cannot just snap his fingers and make all this happen at once . . . or he would have already.

After listening to the 30 minute Briere exit interview, I have a feeling Flyers will be adding to their club in the off season...they may not be in the McKenna hunt.

So why did Hagens drop from last year to this?
A little of oversaturation, he didn't get going in college right off and being a smaller guy he had two adjust to the physical play. So questions if you are getting the guy last year or this year and will he be able to adjust long term, not that his year at BC year wasn't a good year I believe he was 9th historically for a player in the NCAA during their draft year.
I think his skating is around average.

Straight line speed is probably above average and he covers a lot of ground with his stride. Also when in stride he moves decently laterally.

But his skating cadence always looks a bit off, and he is always pretty upright. And his edge work when the game slows down is a bit choppy and not super sharp. Also his acceleration is merely "passable" for a player his size.
He's got some sort of knock knee going on, it is a bit odd. But probably one of the better stickhandlers in the draft.

If Hagens put up the same level of play this year as last, he’s the no question 1 OA?

Probably an 80% chance one of Frondell, Desnoyers, Hagens, or Martone are the Flyers pick. They are far enough away from competing that fit and position should be an afterthought

Martone seems to be more of a playmaker who will go to the dirty areas so it’s not like this is a case of a bigger kid bullying smaller kids. I can see his game translating even if his skating isn’t the greatest. The Flyers could potentially have a nice 1-2 punch with Michkov and Martone on the top 2 lines with one of them on the ice 60%+ of the game. That’s more of a positive than a problem, plus they could be part of a lethal power play

Hagens had a down year but historically he’s been elite. It’s not like a point per game in college is even bad for a draft year, just that his standards were so high. Flyers lucked out with Michkov falling to them and Hagens can be a similar case with other teams overthinking things

TLDR: I wouldn’t be upset with Frondell or Desnoyers but Hagens or Martone is my pick.

Why are so many people on X convinced they would take Desnoyers at 4? Is there a connection there or would it just be a "flyers thing" to do?
Anthony SanFilippo said the Flyers are very high on him and made it seem like they would take him over Hagens/Frondell

His brother, Elliot, is a Flyers draft pick who plays for the Phantoms.

They love themselves a family connection.

*I have no idea what the Flyers actually think about Caleb Desnoyers.

We need to get to 1OA or 2OA otherwise they are going to f*** this up
Therien also said that Jones told him Hagens was the best player in the draft but that was a year ago when that was the consensus amongst most everyone… I like Desnoyers, just not above Schaefer/Misa/Hagens/Frondell… I’d probably take Martone over him too but I think it’s close enough where it wouldn’t be egregious to take Desnoyers at 5 over Martone if those other 4 guys go in the first 4 picks and the Flyers end up at 5.

If only the flyers could trade a player to get another top 5 pick...

Probably an overpayment required, but I wonder what the Flyers could fetch for:

Tippett
1st round pick 2025 (Avs)
2nd round pick 2025 (Flames)

If they can even turn the above into a top 10 pick in 2026, that would be great...or alternatively a good young center from another team.

Anthony SanFilippo said the Flyers are very high on him and made it seem like they would take him over Hagens/Frondell

"From the studio that brought you such classics as "York over Boldy, Caufield, Harley" and "Tuomaala over Stankoven" and "Bonk over Perreault" and "Luchanko over Buium" comes the next must see pick of the season....."

I have no idea what's true, but Brent Flahr is in George Costanza do-the-opposite territory. Those animals on TV who pick the Super Bowl winner would have better odds of success picking between two players.

We know how much emphasis they put on "knowing" a player. That concerns me.

They swooned over Gauthier's character and then in less than a year came to such an impasse he said he wouldn't sign. As far as "knowing" a top 5 player, that's one of the biggest off-ice screw ups in recent times. Then they handpicked Drysdale because they "knew" him. They always know far less than they think they know, but they're hubristic shallow thinkers.
