Wow.

I am so disconnected from the Flyers now that just today did I learn Sanheim was on Team Canada. I knew TK.

Good for them
They needed his experience as the 7th defenseman for Canada.

It would probably have been 8 if things were different and I'll leave it at that.
I know what you’re saying but they really want this to be a showcase of NHL players and outside of the country you are referring to, their isn’t a lot. Slovakia for example only has five active NHL players.

If you can't get to 8 maybe they went 6 with either a Europe or Young Guns team.

From reports even Finland is having a tight roster due to injuries.

It is nice for them. It's unlikely Sanheim will be on the Olympic team, so hopefully he gets some game time in this tournament.

Whoa. Wait a minute. Team Europe was stupid, but do you mean the 2016 World Cup North American U23 thing? That was the most fun I've had watching an international team this century. They played with their hair on fire every second.

Yeah I did not like it. If it's Team USA/Team Canada, it's Team USA/Canada. If it is U23 All Stars, it is U23 All Stars. A mix (NA All-Stars) just... Eh.

I honestly hated it because it killed USA more than it did Canada. The over 24 group for the US was not really good at that time period. They of course exacerbated it more by making puzzling decisions.

I’m not saying they didn’t care but a good bit of those US guys probably could have been legit options for their roster if available. So they kind of were robbed of an opportunity to represent their country.

I don’t think USA would have won anyway over Canada but they would have put up a better showing if their entire talent pool was available to them I think. I think that would have eliminated some of the egregious roster decisions they made.

I think it's made worse that we haven't been able to see the US ice their best lineup anytime between 2016 and now in 2025. That makes it a lot tougher to swallow.

U23 team was fun to watch but I still think it made the whole thing feel like a gimmick. Not getting that passionate over a U23 North American team. Just give me USA's best players on a team and let me cheer for them.

I'm sure some felt the same about Team Europe.

I think the timing of that Team NA played a part in the excitement. To me, it was a glimpse into the future of the NHL with guys like McDavid, Matthews, Eichel, MacKinnon all on the same team. Most years, it wouldn't have had that same appeal.
