Was excited to see him... but he has been really disappointing.

He has great hands, a good shot, and nifty in tight. Solid skater though could tighten up a bit, slightly loose stride at times. Also plays the game with so much "joy", dont know how to say it better... cocky at times but can see just loves playing.

I expected him to make the rest of the Japan team look 2nd rate given how has played in BCHL and his talent level. But yeh, guess unless he has a big 2nd half wont be drafted now.

Also, if you are bored in morning/afternoon some of these days? Can always catch some of these guys between WJC warm-ups, NHL etc.

My guess is Hjalte Kruse Thomsen and Tommaso De Luca get drafted in ~4th-7th in summer.

Wish John Mustard was playing for the Canada East team in WJAC. Though know they only take guys playing in Canada. He is really interesting... more interesting than Reeder and Swanson who are also very talented but will likely fall to 3rd.
Which Swedish fwds do you like the most this year?

They are all a biiit boring. I dont think anyone is likely to be more than a good 3rd liner.

Simon Zether is the best as things stand I guess... but his upside is probably a 2nd line role-player.

Melvin Fernström is a solid player. Talented and well-rounded... maybe creeps into 2nd round.

Alexander Zetterberg I was excited for ~2 years back... and probably has the most upside as skilled and a great PP player. But has stagnated a bit really and hard to see him being more than a 2nd liner if everything goes well.

Lucas Pettersson might be the first Swedish forward off the board. Maybe not quite as skilled as Zetterberg but maybe 2nd most skilled Swede after him... and a better 5v5 and two-way player. If he does not become a 2nd liner could still be a very good 3rd liner.

Oskar Vuollet is a bit of a wildcard. Small... but has a really nice IQ and is not un-skilled. He could go 2nd round or could go 5th round... no idea how NHL teams think of him.

Sweden have the lowest upside draft class this year in ~14 years or so.

It is a similar level to the 2010 Swedish draft up-front... which only produced Jarnkrok, Fast, Johan Larsson, Marcus Sorensson and Oscar Lindberg of any note.

This draft will probably also produce ~5-6 fwds who are solid depth guys but will never crack more than ~40 points.

Brandsegg-Nygård is the star of Scandinavia in this draft. Only Scando who will go first round I guess.

I haven't gotten around to Vuollet or Zether yet but Fernstrom and Pettersson felt pretty meh to me. I've liked Eklund's brother and Zetterberg but I don't think either has that much upside. The most interesting Swede to me is a guy you didn't even mention lol. I can't figure Olofsson out at all. I haven't seen more than 4/5? other guys in the whole draft that combine deception with playmaking like him although it's super inconsistent along with the rest of him game. He makes so many lazy plays it hurts. Overhandling/low danger shots/bad positioning then he'll look off a tight back door pass like this.

Plus he's only at 0.72 ppg right now.... can't figure him out.

Yeh, he is an interesting player but I imagine he most likely ends up a good Euro leaguer.

His skating is a bit of concern, and when combined with being 5'9 tops... and never having blown doors off at any level production wise?

I can imagine he may go undrafted. As I think teams will see him as a potential tweener even if he hits. Though all it takes is one team liking him.

Really think these two guys have better odds of one day being passable 3rd liners than 90% of the draft year guys who will be taken in the later rounds.

Especially as both are really good for their age on D and around the slot and net... as well as having skill. Sitar needs to improve his skating still though to

Not really. He's usually anywhere from 2-5. This is the lowest I've seen someone have him.

Toe, I'll tell you what we want - we want all the others to overthink this and bypass Ivan Demidov like they did with Michkov, maybe even have him going around telling teams he will only sign with the Flyers. Even if they don't believe him, they will laugh themselves to death.
