Official 2024-25 Utah HC Season Discussion.

I hope after this Mc David hissy fit the refs actually do there job and call the game. Frick have a AI review the gametapes and see how many missed calls.. especially cross checking and hooking.

I don't foresee any adding for a playoff run no matter what. Armstrong is careful with his words and everything sounds like any move made will be with an eye to the future and as a long-term addition. It might be dressed up as adding for marketing/media purposes, but it has to make sense beyond this season.

If on the outside, Bjugstad, Kerfoot, and Carcone are the forward UFAs post-season. Don't think there's a huge need to try and move them. Firstly, the return isn't going to be fantastic and they already have a fair number of picks/prospects stockpiled. Assuredly they'd start packaging these at the draft to move up. Secondly, there isn't much depth to move up to the NHL. Doan is up now due to Guenther being out and I'd keep him over Carcone. You'd be dithering between O'Brien and Carcone for the last slot, maybe calling up Yamamoto, but realistically don't see a benefit to pulling anyone up from the AHL.

I expect But and Doan to be on the team next season. If not traded, I'd see if Kerfoot/Bjugstad are keen to re-sign. Carcone can be looked at dependent on those decisions. He's ultimately going to be an in-betweener and might just take a better opportunity elsewhere before waiting on Utah's decision/offer.
Time to move on from Bjugstad and Carcone. Kerfoot I like.

Hope he's smart enough to avoid the 1st one.
What's wrong with Pettersson?

Massive contract, regressing, and a real crybaby when questioned by anyone.
We need 70% of our remaining possible points to reach 95 points and make the playoffs. We are more likely to be sellers then buyers at the TDL, but hey if we win at a 70% clip we would be the second best team in the NHL, so if we get in, we will be on fire, so thats the good part:)

So you say there's a chance.....

What do you think a PPG player should get? The cap is going up again, so that contract might look pretty good in as little as two years. Is his regression this year him, or is it the surroundings of what is all happening around him? As far as a real cry baby I can't comment on that, but I doubt if that concerns any GM if that is true.

Today we are six pts. out of the second wildcard position. I thought that is where we should have ended up last year, but if Utah can end up there this year I would be fine with that. But if they stumble like last year and we end up more than 8-10 pts. out of the wild card position I would call the year a failure. Last year we were 21 pts. from a wild card position.

He is what is happening around the Canucks, that's the part you seem to be missing. It started with his pouting over social media and now it's Miller didn't treat him well. He's a crybaby. He is the 5th highest paid player in the League. For that I expect an alpha dog who leads tge team into battle, not a crybaby who shrinks when the going gets tough. Points aren't tge only factor but if it's just points I want to be between $8 and $9 million for a point a game player.

The last spot is Vancouver on an 89 point pace, that won't be enough to get in, it will be closer to 95/96 points historically. We are on an 82 point pace, thats a 4 point improvement and still 15 points out, even if its 7 points out, thats not good enough, not enough improvement.

Our team D was better until yesterday, the team is inconsistent still on D, thats what causes me to think the coaching isn't as good as it should be or we are misconstructed. Getting Durzi/Gunts back will help the PP and offense but not the D. We had a pick up in team D when Marino got going, although even he made a mistake yesterday in coverage that cost us a goal.

I don't see a mid season trade for a 1C, BA takes forever on big trades, maybe this summer, of course then there will be many suiters. I do agree, he might be a head case, need to be careful of that, might not have the mental make up BA would desire.

He could go down as greatest player in team history but at the cost to acquire and risk from contract there is no way I make such a deal. I would rather add a 2/3 center and a D Man if that's achievable

I don't watch the Canucks, just going on the info I read. I don't think what is happening around the Canucks is all his fault.

So you don't pay attention yet have offered a conclusion. It isn't all one person's fault as that is very rarely the case but he is right in the middle of the issues. He is a petulant child and I would want nothing to do with that, you do you.

Utah needs another 1C or high end 2C, not a 3C. Who do you want as that 2/3 C and a D Man?

You aren't trading fir a 1C without risk and/or warts. My theory is that you can get a couple of 2/3 C who can take the pressure of the wingers and the hopefully future 1C in Cooley. I have no thoughts on who could be available for either position but as always my emphasis would be on skating and defensive ability.

I have offered no such conclusion.
