Sorry Scotto.:(

Happy to see you posting.

Thanks.

Things have been a bit crazy so haven't been on much. try to lurk here and there a bit but even that is hard. Work has been crazy but we are finishing up year end and budgets this week so hope it will slow down after that.

but we are getting the company ready to go IPO in 2017 is my guess so it might stay busy for a while.

throw in all this other crap that has been happening and i have been exhausted.

Well as my dad told me - 'none of us has an expiration date stamped on our ass. Make sure whatever you're doing makes you happy. Because I've never seen a Brinks truck follow a hearse.'

So, I guess that's my question to you. With all you are doing are you truly happy?

I follow his and Lou's advise. I'm essentially debt free. A small mortgage that I could pay off tomorrow if I needed to. No credit card debt. No car loans. Prepaid my kids college tuition though the UPlan. Still need to come up with room and board though.
I've maxed out my 401K for over 25 years. Now doing 'catch up' because I'm old and they let me.

So, I'm about to turn 58 soon and plan on working 3 more years. Dont need to (thats the key) but plan to.

But I have never really had to deny myself or family anything really.

What I did do and I can never get back is put work before family in the 90's. My only real regret.

From your write up it seems we have rode the same wave more or less (a lot of similarities in events) and I cannot agree any harder with your statement in bold.
I was in the same predicament in the mid 1990's to the early 2000's as well.
You are right, we can never retrieve those years back but what we can do is make the memories now and ahead of us more meaningful all because we now know so much better.
When we are younger we strive and dream for early retirement and all that goes with it but life has so many twists and turns.
We must not forget ourselves and the ones we love in all that we do.
Life is a learning experience and we must unfortunately learn the hard ways at times.
However, as long as we learn and we are opened to do better and able to know what really does make one happy in life is the beginning of a healthier and happier oneself.

And to this I say.....Cheers Gee Wally!!

right on with you where Lou.

Sadly I had a big reminder this week that tomorrow is not a sure thing. Friend of mine that I have known since I was 10 passed away suddenly on Monday with no warning signs at 43 years old. Another good friend who grew up right across the street from him had a hart attack last saturday at 43 year old as well. He is doing well after they put the stent into a 95% clogged artery.

planning for the future is great and I need to do a little more of that myself but don't sacrifice too much of the now because tomorrow is not a sure thing for any of us.

I am sorry to hear about your friends death (RIP) and I do wish my best for your friend who is recovering.
I lost my brother at the age of 45 in 2000 from an unexpected massive heart attack and it's never easy.

sorry to hear that. my wife lost her brother on valentines day 5 years ago to a heart attack he was 48 I believe. so this day coming up isn't easy.

boy I am a downer today I need to go home.

Maybe we can lighten the mood here by talking about the first pet we all lost...

In all seriousness, sorry for those who've lost loved ones suddenly. Whether it's sudden or gradual, it sucks.

I have to say if I hadn't seen the white text I would have torn you a new anal orifice .

Then I would have apologized for taking my crap out on you.

Dammit Betsy, I was hoping to get at least one person with that white text...

Your positive attitude and posts have been missed.

Got off work an hour early to be able to go see Deadpool. Movie did not disappoint. Loved it.

Anyone ever struggle with wanting constant self improvement? I have been not been around here as much because I have found a new obsession which is personal finance, more specifically extreme early retirement. (Everyone here should read Mr. Money mustache blog, truly life changing).

I recently made a lot of changes: new job, new house, 1 car traded in, one car sold and not replaced, cancelled cable, changed phone plans, maxed out 401k etc. All great changes that push me towards new goals but... my mind cant friggin stop!

Things are going great but I find myself so lost in my thoughts, and planning, and looking 5-10 year ahead that I miss the now which is ironic because the point of all this is to be able to enjoy life more!

Anyways, first world problems I know but seeing if my LF'ers have any advice!

Stop worrying, relax, let go.
It's already written, youre just along for the ride.

let it all go....

Portland. Maine Medical Center

Congratulations. and well-done for having an open heart, I know you were looking forward to traveling. your resume speaks volumes about how good you are at what you do.

Keep in mind how we talked about the universe's timing. and oh...the Maine Diner has killer seafood chowder. #justsayin

I was told surgery on the foot is not something they will not do until they try everything else. It is painful. I walk weird and then my back and who leg hurts. Getting old....

I have done the stretching and will wear arch supports. I am leaving Wed for a short trip to Nashville and Memphis with my daughter...she usually walks fast so I let her know that I may be slower than usual.

I am picking up an prescription on my way home from work to help with the swelling . Next step is a shot into the tendon.

It's fairly common I guess.

Susan, I worked for the top podiatrist on the North Shore for 5 years. Would you benefit from seeing him? If you are getting a cortizone, hes the best at it. I never heard anyone scream. Hes in Topsfield and Belmont.

Let me know. Try to enjoy your trip!!

I'm dying to see that movie. Were they true to the comic books?

I thought they did pretty good with the characters. Colossus was excellent. The violence was very akin to Deadpool. Don't want to go too much into to spoil anything. Just will say the trailers didn't spoil all the good parts and this was the best Stan Lee cameo yet.

Thanks everyone for the words of advice.

Retired life may not be the nirvana that is perceived. I retired at 54,my sister at 50,my brother at 48. It's a different life,I'm still raising kids so I am always around for them, couldn't do that before. It's been 2 years now,and I've hit the point where I'm looking for some purpose. Been doing handyman and mechanical work for elderly and needy at no cost. My eyes are wide open. Life has to have meaning and importance. Having no bills is great and it's an opportunity to contribute unselfishly. Golf, shooting, traveling, the gym.....doesn't cut it for me.

Got my company proift sharing check today. :)

21.4% of my eligible wages last year (basically anything that wasn't an incentive or bonus counts as eligible).

Was a really, really, really nice check. Going to be able to start flight school in the fall when I get back from 4 months in the Philippines!
