OT: 'Off topic' thoughts

Just a tragic misunderstanding, not premeditated. It was road rage! Got it!

Too many unknowns to make assumptions like you are doing.

Not making any assumptions, there’s videos of the incident and the aftermath and witness accounts. There are witnesses who said he had been driving recklessly prior to even reaching the area, got pissed off that the road was blocked off and then he plowed right through.

I didn’t say it was a misunderstanding. But it wasn’t premeditated. The suspect did not plan it out like Toronto van situation. That’s all I’m saying.

That's almost even more bizarre than a hate crime. Just awful all around.

It’s really bizzare, what I don’t understand is prior to the guy reaching the event, multiple people called the police who saw him driving recklessly on the streets of Vancouver and the police response was zero. This was a totally preventable incident.

It’s tragic, based on the events and what I’ve read so far, it won’t be a hate crime but will be some sort of murder / vehicular homicide case. The motivation behind it wasn’t the fact that the people were Filipino. The result would have been the same regardless of what race those people were. The suspect was Asian himself.

The problem is now we just see these mass casualty events and think there must be some sort of reason for it, ideology, religion and race specifically which tends to lead to a hate crime enhancement

Yup.. sometimes people are just deranged and do things for no reason at all. Which is the saddest part of humanity. We have people who kill just to kill. Hard to accept/wrap your brain around.

Spent some time working up there years ago, truly is a hard rock town, everytime I was in a bar there was always at least one or two fights. Apparently miners work hard and play harder…….

Soooo true. I instantly felt the grit and grime in Sudbury. People are friendly but seem reserved or guarded.

I was walking around town and a guy randomly asked me if I was an undercover cop.

I've been up to Timmins as well a couple of times. "Full Beard Brewery" is great up there.

Work brings me out of town from time to time. Checking out new spots is always fun.

It's early but we might be watching the start of one of the best careers ever in the sport.
