OT: 'Off topic' thoughts

I never got around to playing the Metroid Prime games, but I’m excited to try them out, if I can find some time to play some games.

I’m usually doing game development instead of playing games these days. Well, with the little time I have for either after work and family stuff

I hear you. Finding time is the hardest thing to do but the MP series is so, so worth it!

It’s not supposed to be smart, hopefully the thermostat isn’t going sentient. It’s only two steps from a Terminator otherwise.
Funny that we’re in the middle of a ice storm with no power up here, got ghe generator running and now our furnace has went belly up, luckily it’s nit too cold today, we can survive until the repairman can show up once it’s safe to drive. Never a dull moment with life these days…….

Hope it is straightened out. We didn't get much here in the Smoke, just wet, but sounds brutal just a bit north.

Powers been off since 11:00pm Saturday, estimated time of repairs is 7:00pm Monday. Generator keeps us going, but internet took a shit on Sunday, my wife is jonesing like a heroine addict looking for a fix. We think technology improves our lives, but I’m not so sure it isn’t enslaving us…….

I have maintained for years the only thing on the internet truly worth keeping is the porn.

Other than that the internet f***ing blows.

With every iteration this forum become just a little worse, wasn’t more than a couple of weeks ago it was down for days………
In my opinion, this team as it stands today is dividing the fanbase more than the 2005-2009 era teams that were infinitely worse. Everyone's frustrated, regardless of where we stand on our opinions of the core, management, etc...but I get the impression there are quite a few people on this forum that would rather be right and have the team fail than be wrong and have the team succeed. My opinions on this core, this management group and the organization as a whole are well known, but the Toronto Maple Leafs are infinitely more important than my ego and I'd love nothing more than for Mitch Marner to shove a Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe in my face. He could bludgeon me half-to-death with that trophy for all I care. Give him all the money if that happens, I don't care. I'm not a good fan, I don't watch enough games and there were periods of several years where I tried to pretend I didn't care that much or pay much attention anymore...but I was lying to myself. You can't get mad about something you don't care about, after all.

I was a mod on this very board around that 2005-2008 period and it was definitely a bit Wild West-y, but I didn't feel that *most* people's agendas (I say most because I'm going to get myself in trouble if I elaborate more) permeated quite so deeply, and we banded together more against the flood of trolls that attempted to give us a virtual STD with their posting. The forum wasn't yet flooded with the worst advertising experience of any site I've ever seen and the mods couldn't hide behind Troll Stomper or whatever it's called. One of the biggest problems then on this site were the overly anal moderation (of which I myself was guilty) that ramped up around 2007 or so with the objective to exile (either willingly like myself, or unwillingly) a large group of posters across fanbases to HFBroads. Transplanted Caper was one of those posters, for example, and I will stand by my opinion that he was the best damn poster on this forum. By the time some of those policies were rescinded it was too late. The Habs board lost a bunch of really good posters that will never come back (and/or have grown out of this sort of thing.) Sens board too. I don't think I'm going full OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD mode here when I say I looked forward to posting here more back then than now.

I guess to summarize: Every other fanbase hates us. We shouldn't go out of our way to hate each other. When any of us are wrong, it's okay to admit that (unless you're a politician, apparently.)
Then it came back for a few days without its Clockwork Orange-style bombardment of ads. It was so good.
Brave browser and/or adblockers, my friend.

Well said, I too find myself walking on eggshells whenever I’m composing a post, I always have to consider who my take offence to my words, the world wasn’t always so sensitive so for us old farts it’s a process to figure out what one can and cannot say least they overstep a imaginary line and then face the wrath of the duly appointed who police such things. Maybe I’m too old to be here, I just don’t know anymore………

Paying bills online, using email and having all that information at my fingertips whenever I want are are conveniences I'd rather not do without. I also probably spend 2-3 hours a week playing blitz chess online, wouldn't want to do without that either as that is one of my main hobbies.

Then again, maybe I'm just getting too old to be all that interested in porn anymore.:laugh:

Convenience’s yes, but once a digital currency is the norm big brother might not let you buy that single malt scotch you so love if you’ve exceeded some arbitrary quota said big brother has created. Everything that technology has made to make life easier will in the end enslave us to a controlled existence. I do however like having 15,000 songs on my phone, but that’s just another hook imo………

Internet is one thing, doing away cash is another, hopefully I won't live long enough to see the social credit system become ubiquitous. Everything as far as I can see tells me that the future sucks.

Give me one good reason not to fight on Skynet's side when the machines invade.

I'm running out of reasons why not.

What I am trying to figure out is how Sneaky parachutes in here. Instantly has all this support somehow within days meanwhile all the people that ran terrible policies to the point money is missing or can't be accounted for etc etc are forgotten about or forgiven. I have always been a swing voter for the record, I just don't understand this miracle.

This guy also said he is going to be tough on the US. We export 20% to them, they export 2% to us. Not a strong negotiation position.
