Off Season Thread 2025

First, Bruno is not my coach of choice. But, in defense of him, I believe he’s just trying to implement Trotz’s plan. I don’t think any head coach here is going to escape Trotz beliefs. He is acquiring his kind of players and, no doubt, insisting they be used his way. No coach will defy him. He was relieved of his head coaching job here for reasons. Nowhere does it say he ever believed he was wrong, only that it was “time”. It’s still time.

What are you going to do with Stamkos that said basically the same thing let alone anyone else that may agree with them? Marchessault isn't on an island with is opinion.
My comment was meant sarcastically.

Marchessault was the more abrasive attitude and that's the kind of thing that "goes against the Predators Way" so why wouldn't Trotz circle the wagons around his coach and take another L to get rid of a player criticizing the coach.

We've been seeing Bizzaro World stuff all season. Why stop now?

Yeah, he’s abrasive but is he right? He’s right. Only got 4 forwards who score. Don’t start by cutting one of them. Get out there and look for more.

Cause it wouldn't do any good when other Vets are saying the same thing? All he would be doing is putting a kick me sign on Brunette’s back and I think Trotz isn't delusional enough to believe that's a good place to put your locker room.

Besides if Marchessault is that abrasive he might just tell Trotz to go screw himself and refuse to wave. Frankly I'd almost pay to see that unfold.

One name I've also wondered Trotz could take a look at is Mathew Barzal from the Islanders. Trotz has history with him, and with the Isles looking down at the barrel of a rebuild they could be willing to move on from him.

I don't think we have the quality prospects that Islanders would want. Looks like he has missed alot of time over the years. Is it recurring injuries that should be worried about?

Barzal is a "good" player. No single "good" player is going to move the needle for us, alas. If you got a "good" player essentially for free (UFA signing/Cap dump), then great. If you had to give up prime futures for that player, no thanks.

We don’t have the assets IMO. And trading what we do have for an “all-in” type move is exactly what I’m worried about Trotz doing

I wouldn't. Maybe I'm forgetting something but outside of a season or two has he really been much better than someone like RyJo was?
I think he's a slightly higher PPG but he's only had one really elite season. I wouldn't trade more than just the one pick, if that was involved, and would forget about retention. I'm not really a fan of Pettersson so this doesn't interest me much, but does the player at #3 project to be a guy likely to regularly flirt with PPG production at the NHL level?

Meh I wouldn't really compare him to ryjo. He's more an all around offensive center with only 15 less goals than ryjo had in his career. He had 102 and 89 points the 2 seasons before this year which was in all dismay in Vancouver. I'm not saying I would make the trade but I would seriously think about it. Especially if I don't think that 3rd pick will be as good.

Petterson scares me. If he is willing to pay the price, he could be special but he has never consistently done that. Add to that his skating dropped off precipitously this year due to lingering effects of knee injury and that contract, I don't think I'd part with our pick. I'd give them later 1st and assorted pieces because at that price you gamble on the raw talent, but I wouldn't part with premium piece.

If the Islanders are looking down the barrel of a rebuild we must be in the freaking thing looking up.

Open to Petterson, but not for our pick. I’d move Kemell, a late first, and something else, but not our #1 valued asset
That doesn't get you anywhere close to getting pettersson though. Pettersson is a number 1 center something that you HOPE that pick would be. I'd rather keep the pick as well but the direction of this team is so unknown right now that if we're not gonna do some kind of rebuild I would entertain a pettersson trade if that option ever came up. Like I said not the direction I'd hope for but pettersson is still young and we would get all his prime years

Then they can keep him, he hasn't been consistently good enough to pull the kind of packages listed here
