Boston Bruins Off Season Roster/ Cap Discussion

Apparently no McAvoy and Lindholm is only a big deal when people are criticizing the GM's putrid summer and season?
Getting them back would certainly help too, but Sway's got a big offseason ahead of him to start next year right. Lets hope he's learned something from this year.

This is key Swayman has to come into camp ready to go. I don't think you can over state the distraction his negotiations were this year. If management has learned anything this year . It should be get contracts settled as quickly as possible in the off season .

Geekie I think will get done without issue. The one I think that may be more challenging Lohrei ??. What is his value very debatable

In what world is it okay a coach shows up unprepared and unmotivated. He was under contract for the year, coach the best you can for the year.

Take your hate blinders for Sweeney off for a second and realize the Monty firing isn't on him.

Honest question, were you saying this right before opening night about Montgomery?

Everyone thinking they have 28 mill to spend. Assuming they sign Geekie and Lohrei thats probably around 10 mill? That leaves 18 mill to fill 8 more spots (I think).
They do not need to spend much on Lohrei. He has a lot to prove and much room for improvement. He is just getting started. I like him but if they don't straighten out his game by getting him on a pairing with Charlie or Hampus he will continue to be a disaster. Get the guy some stability and stop asking him to do too much.

The Bruins defense for the next season is a huge question mark. Lindholm almost missed the whole season and had a serious injury. McAvoy had multiple shoulder injuries and had a tough season until the injury. Love Lohrei but his defense game is not NHL ready, you have to hope that the offseason and training camp will help him learn about how to play defense. Zadarov and Peeke did good but are best placed on the third pairing. They have a need for surefire top 4 defenseman who can play both sides, is physical and a good offence game. Then they need a young player who is about to break out, no more tweener and fringe NHLers like Wotherspoon, Oesterle or Callahan.

Think they just have to hope Swayman grows up and puts in the work offseason, gets a full camp and starts the season with his head on right
I agree, they have to hope for all those things, but a) I'm not willing to bet my career on him turning things around and b) why not help Swayman's process along by bringing in someone who will make him say, 'shit, I better get my head right or I'm not going to be the starter.'

Competition is a good thing.

This was exactly the argument against giving Swayman that contract.

a.- Sweeney did bet his career he would be worth that contract and kept him versus Ullmark.
b.- Needing to throw assets away to both dump Korpisalo and bring in another guy to motivate swayman seems like throwing good money after bad.

I think the only hope here is that fixing the team in front of Swayman may improve his play and the teams performance overall.

My argument was, you give a goaltender money that he has not earned and leave nothing in the kitty, to put players in front him makes zero sense. The only solution I have is move the money grabbing failure, that in my belief is the player most responsible for the dysfunctional atmosphere in the locker room, note I did not say ONLY PLAYER responsible.

Lohrei should be fine next year in a smaller, sheltered role. This was a good year for him to work through a lot of issues.

Imagine if the plan was to run it back with the forward group and hope for better. Why is it okay to do that with the goaltending, but not the other significant weakness?

I don't think either one is okay.

Not a good comparison.

Goaltenders are not hockey players, to begin with. And a forward group is 12 players, only two guys make up the goaltending unit. This was Swayman's 5th NHL season and his first bad one. Do you really think it's a good idea to try to replace him?
