I can easily see that. The real question though, is for How Much and for How Long? I think there's a gap there, and that's the reason they traded him in the first place....
He's proving he has 3 years left as he leads the Panthers in scoring at 37. Across the continent, Perry is now 40 and still having an impact.

Give me a $6,000,000 x 3 on the 3rd line. 63 for $6x3.

I remember 5 years ago people poo pooing perry because he was too old and past his prime etc etc

there are quite a few guys Sweeney could have grabbed that would have made a big difference, biggest miss was Maroon after 2019.

let's put it this way, it's not as much of a factor relative to how much it's talked about on this board

for shit's let's take MA as an example;

If you are offered 7.5 million a year, your income tax will be about 630 K. That means that a team could also just offer you an addition 650k flat to account for what you'd lose. This means that they need to focus more on not burning money on JAG's and buyouts

In canada, it's even higher, and plenty of big names sign there

sure, all things considered, a guy who is offered the same amount by two teams, he likes both places equally, earning an additional 3-4 million over the course of the contract would make a difference, but then we're also not taking into account endorsement deals. You could sign in a place like florida/tampa or dallas but how much money will you make off your name vs in a place like toronto or boston or new york?

so again, it's just not nearly as much of factor as it's pushed on the internet by us commons that think more about the strain of taxes on our much smaller incomes.

Its $750K for that contract. The first 1M is at 5%. The delta of. 6.5M is at 11%. For the state alone.
Believe what you want but to say its not a factor here either the new millionaire tax bracket is laughable.
And in Boston what are you going to get aDUNKIN donuts? Sullivan tire? C.mon man.

You know you're racking up a pretty big tab right? 3 @ $6mil for Marchand, plus taking on Pettersson for another 7 @ $11.6mil......Gotta bring back Geekie too, no?

Personally, I'd pay Geekie before I paid Marchand, but that's just me.

Very strange that someone is stealing your stories.

But I will add that Im glad you confirmed they are true because I honestly thought they were some stupid AI clickbait crap flooding my facebook feed.
I posted these stories here a few years ago.

It was weird seeing them and I do not know WHO posted them

Charlie McAvoy has a pretty sweet Hair Transplant endorsement, though.....

No reason to not pay both. Plus, I'd also have Zacha or Mittelstadt leaving in the Pettersson trade. That money goes to Brad. Now, you're jsut adding Geekie and Petterson's money. Plenty enough for that.

But you're right, without Zacha/Mittelstadt going the other way, Pettersson becomes too expensive.

you sure? I ran a calculator and it said 631 and change

Your name recognition is going to be higher here and in canada and other big markets relative to smaller markets where they don't care about hockey, regardless if you want to just demote the idea to "sullivans tire" and "dunkins" lol

I would argue that football, basketball, and baseball, the income tax argument is a lot more prevalent because you're going to also get great endorsement deals in the south, likely even more so

seems like you have a bit of an axe to grind RE the MA millionaire's tax and that's leaning your opinion on this topic

I have zero axe to grind. But thats the tax bracket as of last years elections.its math.
Its strictly the business aspect of it.

100% this^

Lets take Mikko Rantanen. He signed for 8yr/$12 million a year in Dallas. Colorado and Carolina are both very good teams, cup contenders in fact. The total taxes Mikko would pay over those 8yrs with each team:

COL - $39.4 million
CAR - $39.7 million
DAL - $35.1 million

So Mikko nets $4.3 to $4.6 million more over the life of his contract by signing with Dallas

Sure and in either way he has a massive amount of generational wealth.

Because he is the guy. Kid is a horse. Unless Verbeek asks for far too much and Pettersson is coming in comparatively cheap. Sounds like the Canucks have plans to make some moves before July1 too.

Also, did Guerin skewer some of Rossi’s value? Demoting him constantly and having such a public lack of trust isn’t good optics before you try and trade someone.
What do you think it would take for Verbeek, to accept an offer from the Bruins. Rossi is a talent no doubt, but doesn't his size come playoffs concern you.

Most hockey players in my opinion are top shelf guys, there is the occasional butt hole, and I have seen it firsthand. Might add compare hockey players to other sports or even entertainers, they are far and away more down to earth, guys that you would like to have a beer with.

Marchand’s size in the playoffs has never been a concern.

Sure, but its still over $4 million in the example I provided. Don't forget, we only talked about taxes. When you start adding in agent fees, escrow, NHLPA dues, that money adds up.

Sure it is, and some of the other things add up. Fine, but ultimately whether Rantenen takes home 41 million or 37 million of the next 8 years is really not Going to fundamentally change his life. Being happy in their community. Their friends, their family, etc are things that money doesn't necessarily change, and can fundamentally change your life
