No one should blame Brad for wanting 6/7 million, and no one should blame Sweeney for not doing it

Absolutely. I felt the entire thing was handled about as well as it could of been. That 3rd year was a big risk for the organization I understand why they decided to move on giving the overall circumstances and direction of this franchise. If Brad wanted the security of the 3rd year, he needed to come down more and mitigate that risk. If he feels he can get what he's looking for in terms of AAV and years, more power to him.

Brad is looking great and slotted where he should be; 3rd line LW.

If Boston has the luxury of making him that role (meaning they have two LW's better than him playing in the top six) then he is the perfect fit to return.
Marchand has been playing RW.

It's a little weird, because FLA doesn't have a player on the left side who has more points than Marchand, and that's with Marchand missing a month and a half of hockey. All of FLA's LW's have played 80-82 games.

It reminds me of when Mike Sullivan put Phil Kessel on the 3rd line for Pittsburgh's 2 Cup runs. They had a top6 talent driving play on all 3 lines.

Watching all the games, that line seems like they've been playing years together. Really impressed with their chemistry and clear movement of the puck.

Deadly that the Bruins 2nd best forward this year is on the third line of a contender. Reality hit hard this year.

Florida is the deepest team in the playoffs. They have 7 guys with 4 points, that leads the league. Most other teams have 3 or 4.

I have them and Dallas since the trade deadline as the CLEAR cut favourites. Dallas is missing their top two players and are still up 3-2 on the 2nd best team in the West. Unreal.

I even bet heavy on those two teams to win their Conferences.

Yeah that's not how it works. Knies has no incentive to do that whatsoever. And you can't do the sheet then turn around and do a long term deal right away. That would be circumventing the CBA.

You could offer him an offersheet that runs straight to UFA. That would get his attention. Of course you might be giving up a bunch to see him walk.

A Knies offer sheet wouldn’t be worth it for Boston imo. End up losing too many potential lottery picks. Imagine they sign him. Then win the draft and miss out on McKenna

Also theoretically helps season young guys like Minten versus riding herd with Pasta.

I've been leaning "no" in regards to Brad, but this would work much better than a youth line as a third line or ancient Brad torturing himself through 18 minutes a night. I'd be more than okay with this.
I like the idea too....theoretically. All depends on the price though. I love the idea of using Marchy in a 3rd line mentorship role for guys like Minten, on limited minutes. BUT then he needs to be paid accordingly. Not at the $6-7mil range some folks are suggesting.

In my opinion, that's where the whole idea breaks down. I don't see Marchy taking a pay cut on his last NHL contract, to play his remaining years on a rebuild/retool.

So true. The reason why I honestly don't see him returning. The break has been made and the price has been set. I don't see him backpedaling on his $$$ value. If anything, it probably increases. I don't think anything has changed from the Bruins POV.

We can't score and have one high-skilled forward and people would turn down bringing Marner in. LOL. Classic.

Making Mitch Marner the highest paid player in the NHL next year makes about as much sense as giving Swayman 10M.

Lots of people would be fine having Marner here. Not everyone wants to pay him TOP money and have him be a cornerstone player. He is NOT that guy. He's the 3rd best key player on his own team right now.

This post works in vacuum only. He’s 3rd on his team on a team with Matthew’s and Nylander. He’s a top 15 player in the league. None of the other top 15 forwards are getting a contract this summer. He almost certainly will not be the highest paid come 7/1/2026. If Matthew’s and Nylander were up for contracts this July, they would get more. Pasta would also get more. The cap is going up quite a bit. It’s okay to pay stars money. 13.5 will feel like 9 in 3-4 years time. You also really can’t compare Sway to Marner.
