Speculation: Roster Building Thread: Part XXI (Will these playoffs ever F'ing end?)

I mean… if you’re reading the news as it comes out, her case is awful and she was older than the players involved at the time and is on film requesting and offering certain things… I’m neither the judge nor the jury, but I wouldn’t be so quick to condemn the players involved either. Group sex isn’t a crime. And while some of the players were underaged, the woman in question was 20 and, again, is on film offering and asking for things. I’d either advise following the case or withholding judgement.
agreed and well-said.

Rangers tend to sell low and trade for players that are worse and have less trade value. The only recent trade that worked was Gaborik for Brassard + if the Rangers can somehow get that similar value for Panarin it would be a big win and could change the culture of the franchise
Brassard for Zibanejad
Nash to Boston
Del Zotto for Klein
Spooner for Strome
Lias Andersson for 2nd (Cuylle)

If they’re moving on from Rossi who just dropped a 60+ point season bc their GM doesn’t like undersized guys who create from the perimeter, it would stand to reason that the same would apply to Panarin who plays the same way and is 10 years older.
If said player would score in 90-120 range, not 60 (there’s no + as I’m sure you know) then maybe it wouldn’t be a difficult Dec for Minnesota to make. Their scoring is absolutely not comparable.

What a joke. I HATE that quoting some random tweet constitutes news articles these days and news apps don't give me a way to filter these articles out. Schneider is worth at least two 1st and two 2nds to Tampa Bay :naughty:
That site is the literal worst. I have to give the operator credit for keeping their content out there but it’s legit the worst crap I’ve ever seen. It takes the tiniest thing and blows it up into something trying to make it credible.

I meant culture change to improve. Brassard for Mika made the culture change worse. Brass was a consistent playoff performer, like Panarin Mika disappears when it matters most. The fact that the Rangers got anything for Andersson was luck. If Andersson wasnt related to the scouts of the Kings, he would have been placed on waivers

I don't remember the specifics but I think he said he left and the girl was weeping.

He said he couldn’t recall if the sounds were weeping or “something else”. He said she practically dragged Formenton, the only one accused of having intercourse with her, to the bathroom explicitly for the purpose of having sex and that he was hesitant and kept asking the group if it was okay that he accept her advances and that she relentlessly “chirped” all of them, including the ones who did not participate for not wanting to fornicate with her. She is also on video repeatedly telling them everything is consensual and to relax, as well as requesting they do things to her. I’m not saying any of the players are angels, but her case is falling apart badly. Meanwhile, the better question is probably about the adult chaperones who provided copious alcohol to 17-18 year old players and let them be alone in hotel rooms with random 20 year old girls. Either way, the prosecution is floundering as the case goes on.

12th overall for Rossi
Schneider+Laf for Byram+Peterka
Panarin to LA for Clarke + 24
Kreider to Anaheim for like, 2 2nds
Use the 1st from LA and the 2nds from Anaheim to add a top-6 RW, or sign Marchand (or address this in season if the cap is too tight after RFA signings)
Soucy to wherever for like a 5th for cap purposes

Sign Cuylle 8x6, Rossi 8x8, Peterka 8x8, Miller 2x6, Byram 2x4.5, Edstrom 2x1.25, Rempe 2x1.5

Peterka-Miller-Mika
Cuylle-Rossi-Trade/Marchand/in season add
Berard/Parsinen-Trocheck-Perrault/Parinsen
Edstrom-Carrick/Parsinen-Rempe

Miller-Fox
Byram-Borgen
Vaak-Clarke

Roster isn’t perfect but it’s younger and has the potential to be a very good 4 line, 3 pair team. Value on most of those trades is pretty even, I’d say. It’s a lot of movement, probably too much to be realistic, but Drury has plenty of options and this is the level of rebranding this roster NEEDS. With the cap rise teams will be looking to wheel and deal. I don’t think moves like these are completely out of the realm of possibility, but I’ll believe drastic change is coming when i see it. Not super confident we’ll see a huge overhaul before this season. I could see us somewhat running it back with Sullivan (not ideal but I think it could happen).

Speed isn't just top speed. I agree, how you compete matters, and how much you move your feet matters. That's Laf's biggest problem, not his top speed. His burt speed is the second big problem. Rangers playing man-on-man without speed was a problem. Barkov was in the 80 Percentile when it came to burst over 20 and skating distance. He moves his feet and he creates a 1st step separation when players are on him. His downfall is the top speed comparison to some other players.
I think of speed as being the first to get to where the puck is going. Sometimes it’s a foot race but 99% of the time one guy gets off the blocks faster. So I think playing ‘fast’ is more about processing the game than it is about who skates faster.

ZIbanejad has 55 points in 58 playoff games with NYR. He led the team in playoff scoring one ECF run, and was 2nd in scoring the other.

Not sure where that narrative came from.

Most of his points were assists. It’s not like he scored big goals in the playoffs. He never dominated in the playoffs. Like Panarin they make excuses for both when they dont produce goals in big games. Brassard scored more big goals in the playoffs than Mika

Without checking the exacts, I am pretty sure he is significantly better in early rounds against lesser opponents than he is in later rounds

Imagine if the Rangers had just as good scouts as the Panthers. Rangers must improve as an organization

Soucy would look much better on Florida. The Panthers have a way of turning mediocre players into better players. Mikkola looks better on the Panthers. Kulikov looks better on the Panthers. Montour played his best hockey in Florida after so so stints in Anaheim and Buffalo. Seth Jones looked cooked in Chicago. Gustav Forsling was a journeyman until the Panthers acquired him. I remember watchng Forsling on Chicago and he was OK. I remember Quenneville didn't really like him. Vancouver. Chicago. Carolina. The Canes placed Forsling on waivers. Florida picks him up and Forsling is Larry Robinson. Sylvain Lafebvre works with their D. He deserves a raise.

Florida signs Kevin Stenlund for nothing and he turns into a good role player.

Hey but at least the Rangers can develop goalies!

I can check stats (I'm bored). As a Ranger:
Round 1* - 1.148 ppg
Round 2 - 1.111 ppg
Round 3 - 0.583 ppg
Playoff ppg = 1.017
Second half ppg = 0.583
Today's non-interesting stat: Mika's 3rd round stats are exactly the same as Barkov's 4th round stats leading into this SCF...

As a comparison to two of the better playoff centers from the East (which probably isn't fair to them or Mika:

Barkov:
Round 1 - 0.923
Round 2 - 0.772
Round 3 - 1.066
Round 4 - 0.583
Playoff pp = 0.863
Second half ppg: 0.851

Point:
Round 1 - 0.760
Round 2 - 1.4
Round 3 - 1.166
Round 4 - 0.923
Playoff pp = 0.967
Second half ppg: 1.064

*Round1 stats for all players include the play-in round and any seeding games from the covid season

It's June.

Scouting combine is supposed to be place where teams will discuss trades because the draft is decentralized this year. There won't be any face to face discussions after the scouting combine.

In no particular order, I would trade these players.

Artemi Panarin is entering the last season of his seven year contract. The Rangers would be fools to extend Panarin. There seem to be potential moves with the southern California teams. Kenny Holland has discussed having the power to add significant players to the Kings. Pat Verbeek has a mandate to make the playoffs. Joel Quenneville is there. Panarin's first NHL HC. Panarin's good buddy Ryan Strome is there. Verbeek wanted to sign Steven Stamkos last summer. Right handed shot. Older player. California is still a nice play to live.

Chris Kreider has been a very good Ranger. Nothing is forever.

Mika Zibanejad is a crybaby entitled bitch. His comments on breakup day were awful. The players want a say in personnel and they couldn't understand the moves made by management. I remember Brian Boyle lost his mind when Zibanejad was the topic on the NY Post podcast. Mika discussed his contract having a NMC and both sides signed it. His contract didn't say anything about player personnel decisions. That's not in his contract. Kreider will be gone and Mika won’t be able to accept that. Mika is a terrible for the culture of the team.

K'Andre Miller doesn't seem to be interested in signing more than a two year extension taking him to group III. That is not in the Rangers best interests. He shares the same agent as Barclay Goodrow and you wonder if there are any residual bad feelings from that situation. Two years and then walk. Asking for a trade is a messy thing.

Adam Fox is the one player on the team with value who doesn't have any clause. The Rangers aren't chained to a list of team or don't have to ask for permission. He is a quality player. The Rangers should explore trade opportunities. EF did say Drury is willing to listen on anything. The Rangers should be able to get a really good deal for Fox to reboot the roster. I don't think the Rangers are a Cup team anymore. Where is the path towards a Cup for this team in the next 4 seasons? Sullivan's teams haven't made the playoffs since 2022. The Rangers need more than Sullivan's coaching. They don't have a million kids and picks to use to acquire NHL roster players. Free agency is a joke. Connor McDavid is not signing with the Rangers next summer. Jack Eichel is staying in Vegas, Acquire a top D to rebuild the D around and a top forward for Fox. Drury needs to do something significant. Fox is a smaller D and those guys don't really translate well in the playoffs. He isn't a fast guy either. How many teams have won with their lead D being 5-11 and 185 pounds? He is a 2nd pair D and PP guy on a winning team. The Rangers don't have the assets or the players to acquire other players to shield Fox from the heavy lifting acquired to win 16 playoff games. I see people making three trades to acquire pieces when you can acquire those pieces in a Fox deal. Fox was a top 3 D. Then top 5. I see people now saying top 10 D. It will be top 15 D by the end of next season.

I have no loyalty towards any of the Rangers players after what transpired last season which was an absolute shit show.

I dont know how I'd feel about this trade. Trading an NHL dman who is in the top 6 for an unproven young player.

Id offer Jones and 2ed (AVS) for Howard

Schneider for this guy is not a serious proposal. The Rangers will sooner trade K’Andre Miller I’d bet, before they trade Schneider.

A lot of truth in here. Though I am wondering if Kreider ends up being the one who stays. He’d have to completely accept being a third liner. I don’t really have a gauge on how he fits in now.

Remember the days George would tell Don Mattingly that he needed to get a haircut and that was a Yankee team policy? Would be kind of funny if we adopted that policy 😂☺️😂

Edit: For the younger people the Yankees benched Don because his hair was too long. Seemed silly at the time but if the team wanted to be petty lol 😂
