You do understand have a hitter as Biggio in the 9 spot adds a lot of value. The ability to have someone in that spot that can flip the lineup allows for our best hitter (Springer) to get more at bats with runners on base. If we have Jansen at 9 and he has a season like last, it doesnt help putting Springer at the plate with runners on base.

I understand what your saying about Biggio. But Springer has been the best leadoff hitter in baseball. Why would you change that?
That’s why I said you can flip Biggio and Springer. But Biggio should be 2nd in that case. There are worse scenarios than Biggio in the 9 hole. It’s not my ideal lineup.

Guerrero will not be in lineup as a DH at this point in his career. Understand that he has taken his off season to heart this year. He is dedicated. Maturing. You give him every opportunity to succeed in the field. That is at the very least what the Jays can give this guy.

As for DH, if Grichuk is retained. He will platoon DH with Tellez based on lefty-righty matchup. They both will see time in field as well to spell at 1B and OF.
I know Vladdy has cut a lot of weight and wants to play 3b but based on his winter ball, he's still a bad defender at 3rd. Are we going to gift him the position because he's the face of the franchise? Seems to me that we're going all-in, it's not time to experiment and worry about a players ego.

I don't think Bauer is dictating the market, theres no one even near him in this class of starters.

Oh I'm not saying that. But if you have the Mets, Jays, and Dodgers (for example) vying for his services he only picks one. Those other two teams would need to look elsewhere after he signs. So those lesser tier starters are still available because they're a plan B to Bauer being plan A for a few teams.

Am I the only one who thinks Bauer is getting overrated a bit. He's been a 4 ERA pitcher for his career prior to this shortened season (1/3 of an actual season) where he had 11 great starts which is leading him to a CY Young and contract that's likely going to be yuuugge.

Not saying he isn't a good pitcher but 11 games that were well above his career averages shouldn't have teams paying him like he's the second coming of Pedro Martinez. This just seems to be right place right time situation to me

I still doubt the potential run expectancy impact warranted the type of complaining we did about it.

It was a mixture of 100 questionable moves that ended up with "small" things like batting Teo 7th to "help the bottom of the order" that really made people question his sanity.

Ah okay, that makes more sense. Bauer is going to get a massive deal, I think I'd prefer throwing money at Paxton for 1 year around $10 million and trade for a starter like Hendricks. I wouldn't bother with him at this point unless he'd accept a 1 year deal, which he won't based on rumours. He's not a starter I'd wanna pay for 4-5 years.

He is overrated. He'd be a massive gamble. I've said before I wouldn't go more than 2 years for him.

Bauer is worth 14 million per season. Anything more than that is insane. He needs to prove his success is sustainable, not an anomaly if he wants 30 mil+ per season.

Lucky for him, all it takes is one donkey to think irrationally, and baseball has proven time and time again that there is always someone irrational

It's pretty obvious we aren't done yet in terms of adding impact players. How we acquire said player is unknown, but the fact that we were in on Taillon, Tanaka and have been linked to Bauer, Hendricks/Bryant tells me we will certainly be adding an impact starter as well as possibly someone who can play 3rd.

Pitching is so much more than ERA.

He's been great the last 3 years outside of 10 starts in Cincinnati (his first 10 in the NL since his rookie year).

He’s certainly not the type of pitcher I’d want to invest in long term. Not at the dollars he’s looking for especially. Grab two of the guys we’ve all talked about or go the trade route

No doubt. Put aside his personality and politics and Bauer is a roll of the dice to begin with based on his numbers. I'd be more than happy to go into next year with Ryu, Hendricks, Paxton, Pearson, and whoever as the fifth starter. Hopefully that'd be Walker.

Why ban the stuff? Does it physically harm anyone?

I really don't get the world's obsession with making substances and drugs illegal. Unless it hurts or kills you, it should be fine.

Besides, it's quite entrepreneurial and creative. You can't stop people from seeking an advantage - that's human nature.

The only potential issue I can see is unequal access - but this is even more of a problem when there's a black market for such goods.

I would really like to see them move Grichuk or Roark and use that money on a legit starter. Wish we could get 2 starters but I’ll still be happy with 1. One free agent and one trade.

Ryu
Starter 1(Paxton/Odorizzi/Walker/
Starter 2 (Hendricks/Gray)
Pearson
Ray/Stripling/Matz/Chatwood/Hatch/Borucki/ whoever earns the spot in ST.

I think Matz could be a really good reliever.

If rumours of us being in on Tanaka you could assume we are willing to spend some money to improve the rotation.

I grew up watching Bonds, Canseco, Giambi, Sosa etc and loved every minute of it. Those guys were no doubt roided right up and frankly, I dont care at this point. I agree that it's weird that one performance enhancer is fine, another, is suspendable.
