I don’t hate the idea of Grichuk for segura if that was the plan. Decent numbers last season.

I'm getting a feeling like we are about to do something massive like Sign Springer and Realmuto then trading a Janssen and Biggio type of move for a Snell type of player and really hit hard on establishing a stellar core who's going to be under control for multiple years.

The Insiders: Jays are in on everyone!

Me: Everyone?

I'm on board for a Grichuk or Roark for Segura. The Philles dont have a CF and probably want to open up 3B for Bohm and clear SS to re-sign Didi. Giradi is a big Didi fan.

Arrieta is a free agent and the Phillies only have Nola, Wheeler and Eflin as dependable starters. Bring Roark back to the NL East.

Grichuk and Roark for Segura and the rights to Jay Bruce because it wouldnt be a proper Jays off-season if Jay Bruce wasnt rumored to come here. For them to take on Grichuk AND Roark, we would probably have to take on Herrera or Cutch unless we are retaining. Grichuk for Segura makes sense. Even Roark for Segura makes sense too. Sucks taking on that extra year but helpful to open up that starter spot and get a decent player back.

Biggio would be insane to me, but I can see Jansen happening unfortunately; especially if they're truly after Realmuto.

Jansen and Biggio for Snell? That’s brutal. Jansen maybe

I’m with you on this. I have this gut feeling that Springer will be on this team next year. When that’s combined with the actual smoke that is out there, it only reinforces my feeling. I mean, how can we not have 100% confidence in my gut feelings when they successfully predicted that Oliver Drake would be claimed off waivers and Socrates Brito would go to the Pirates :sarcasm:

Can Segura play any other position?

Not sure if this is a real upgrade to Bo...even if it helps our CF option if Grichuk goes.
Segura can play 2B/3B/SS. While he could in theory replace Bo at SS, it is Shaw who is being truly replaced. The players just might shuffle positions based on who is brought in though.

A poster from another forum made a great point.

Last off-season the Jays were aggressive offering money to everyone but no one signed. They have offered some more than fair deals like the 40M to Gausman and he still didnt take it. Looked like no one wanted to come to Toronto until Ryu. And the rumor is the Jays made one last offer to Ryu, betting against themselves, Boras didnt take it right away so the rumor leaked that the Jays were after David Price. Once Boras heard that, Ryu and his camp agreed to the deal.

Blue Jays: Was the David Price rumour a leverage smoke screen?

This poster's theory is the Jays probably have more than fair offers on the table and players are waiting for better offers knowing they have the Jays in their back pocket. In additional, when they have rumors like Segura leak, perhaps they are letting their other 2B/SS/3B options know, we are after other players and if you dont take our offer then you just lost a suitor and our bid.

Jean Segura is a solidly above average player. $15 million each of the next two years may be more than we would like to pay, but you're not getting him for $40 million in contracts we would all be happy to not have on the books right now.

I hope we go big this offseason.

Intriguing that of all the years ownership is looking to go all in again and bump payroll significantly, it'll be the one where it's conceivable they won't receive a single dollar from ticket sales.

I would rather keep both. Segura might have some ability but 15M is fugly for a guy whose primary value is D.

So if I want my tin foil hat on. We are using Segura to acquire both Bryant and Lindor? okay I like it

He's been an above average hitter in four of the last five years, has a 102 wRC+ over the last three years (the exact same as Grichuk), and Steamer projects him for a 97 wRC+. It's not like he's some glove-only offensive black hole.

He makes 5M more per year and is projected for similar output. I think we can move both Grichuk and Roark without taking money back.
