Montreal have 8 defensemen signed 1-way. They'll have to waive one of them. Can't see who could be waived before Nathan Redmond. Trade incoming?

Big Andrey Pedan from the Nucks.
Unless he really stinks in camp, he'll likely make the team as a press box guy, but barring a miraculous off-season of preparation, it's only a matter of time before he's waived.

edit: with the Oilers signing Lucic, and the Nucks lacking toughness, he might make the team as a 7th d-man or even as a 13th forward.

Can also see Etem, Biega and possibly Rodin on waivers as well

One or both of Dillon Simpson and David Musil for the Oilers. Simpson had a pretty good year in the AHL last year and showed good progression. If I had to guess I'd say Simpson sticks as the 7/8/Pressbox guy and Musil gets waived.

Simpson is still exempt.

He signed his ELC at 21 and has three years of waiver exemption from there.

Montreal - Brian Flynn (I wish), David Desharnais (I really wish), Stefan Matteau, Chris Terry, Zach Redmond, Mark Barberio (likely the #7 this year)

Anyone know of any recent examples of teams grabbing a player off waivers and the player actually becoming an impact player ( top 6 forward or top4 d)

Why would Ryan Murphy be waived? Granted, I'm only an outsider here, but judging based on numbers alone, Murphy seemed to have a solid season in each of the last 2 years split between Carolina and Charlotte. I thought he was pretty highly touted, what happened? Injuries? He was 0.75 PPG in the AHL last year.

You're absolutely right. He did have some trouble adapting to the pro game, which happens from time to time with guys that have his skillset. He learned a LOT under Smith, Peters, and Morris last year and changed his approach to the game a good bit. The big reason he didn't stick last year was mostly a depth thing. He was playing just fine here the first part of the year, nothing stellar but not bad by any means, until he got a concussion. That and the Wiz injury opened the door for Pesce and Slavin to come up and make their presence known.

That's not an issue this year. We didn't qualify our #7 (Jordan) and Wiz was bought out. So now the projected #6/7 guys are Murphy and Tennyson. Though I expect a fair bit of competition in camp for those two spots by Carrick, Fleury, and McKeown, but McKeown is the only HRS of those 3, which both Murphy and Tennyson are, and Bill greatly prefers to have a 3LH-3RH setup with his defense.

Glen Metropolit with Montreal? Top-6 might be pushing it but he did end up Montreal's 4th best goalscorer in 2010.

Nestrasil? Not sure I'd entirely call him an impact player but he gels REALLY well with Jordan Staal on a two-way 2nd line and had 41 points in 96 games since being snagged. Nothing stellar but definitely a quality player.

Pulkkinen and Sproul will both likely see the waiver wire. Could name Sproul be claimed as well.
