I want Ghost to see the most minutes he can with the best players he can. It's that simple for me. There are plenty of "top pairing" d men who aren't brutalized in usage. That's why I'd like to see MDZ and Gudas split. I feel very comfortable saying they are both capable of being top pair defensemen. If the Flyers had a true #1, either could be the #2 and be rock solid. So, you might as well maximize their ice time by having one or the other on the ice most of the time.

Watching the game on DVR now.

Farmer Andy with a brutal turnover the very first time he touched the puck. Lol.

He'd be fine if not asked to carry a dead weight veteran. He's no shut down defensemen but he's not a complete disaster either.

Agreed, but I think he was most effective in that semi-specialist role he was in last year.

Load him up on O-Zone starts and every PP, and don't shy away from the occasional tough shift, but 22-24 minutes might be a bit too much for him and his style.

I rolled my eyes at that one. After that, he really didn't do anything else good or bad. He was just a guy who wasn't hurting you. So, basically he had a peak performance.

If thats what he did every game I could live with his brutal contract..alas, it isnt.

Two A+ chances for Coots on one shift early thanks to great passes by his wingers. Both shots missed the net but they wont always. His points will come.

Thoughts on 1st period..

Top 6 was great again and spent minimal time in their zone.

Neuvirth was actually very good in the 1st too.

The powerplay looked different. Looked to me like they are floating Ghost between left point and right point..with G and Voracek sliding up to opposite of whichever point Ghost is at.

Gudas was awesome the first 30 minutes but could not have possibly played that Skinner goal worse.

Stalberg owned Provy on Carolinas 3rd goal. He was too nonchalant. Growing pains. Neuvy has to make that save though.

I thought Streit could have played that goal better too. If you watch, when Provy is battling for the loose puck, Streit just gets cement feet and stops skating. Stalberg beats Provy, then Streit has to start skating again and gets beat. Lord knows he can't give up a step. Bad on Provorov, but Streit just hovered too. And then, as usual, goalie can never make a single save when Provorov messes up.

Not too much to complain about here in this game, other than the usual suspects (goal tending, defense, lack of bottom 6 goal scoring.)

Im too bummed about the Eagles losing to remember anything important from this game.

Yeah I saw that too. Zombie Streit is such a bad partner for Provy. Hes lifeless half the time.

It really is incredible that every glaring mistake Provy had made ended up in the net. Brutal luck.

I wonder if we have ever had a game before where we got a PP, SH and ES goal all from defensemen? Trivia nerds, assemble!

On Provorov's bad plays he reminds me of Hagg. Very nonchalant.

Hagg can be nonchalant all over the ice, and not only on the obviously bad plays. I think it may be due to questionable hockey sense at times. Provorov is poised and heady. When a poised play backfires it can look like nonchalance, but it definitely isn't for Provy. He plays a game of absolute control of game flow. But he's still just getting used to the pace of the NHL game. Almost all of his miscues happen on plays where he doesn't have that extra half second, like in junior. There's a fine line between nonchalance and composure. Provorov is firmly in the latter camp. His composure level is just in need of tweaking. First month in the NHL seeing top 4 minutes as a 19 year old. None of this is surprising.

Stalberg is one of the fastest skaters in the league at that end of the day. He had a ton of steam by the time he poked the puck free. By that time there wasn't really much of a chance either defender was catching him. Streit can't match that speed at all & Provorov got turned around. It happens. If Neuvirth makes the save there it isn't talked about much.

I wake up every day wondering how Manning is doing this.

I don`t post often, but at 30.11.2014 I recognized some scoring potential...he leads our prospects at the phantoms.
I`m pretty sure there must be an older posting at the prospect-rankings, but I see only posts back to 2014.

Manning leads the Phantoms in scoring, who would have thought that?!

The most noticeable thing about that game was the black girl in the Flyers away sweater sitting directly behind our bench. Stunning. Gorgeous.

That and Mandog :laugh::laugh::laugh:

holy hell... All of the goals allowed save the Giroux one were pretty horrific. Both goalies sucked.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I was just standing in front of my tv the last 10 minutes of the 3rd period, just praying Carolina wouldn't get one. I know it's early in the season, but this was a great win for the team. They had come so close the previous two games. I'm sure the mood on the plane ride home was awesome.

Detroit at home on Wednesday should be a good one. Great for them to have a day off today and then get ready for yet another back-to-back on Wed and Thurs. MDZ comes back on Saturday, but we are in Montreal again for that one.

The D should tighten somewhat after Saturday, and you have to think the goalies can only get better. If the O keeps going like it is, there is reason to be optimistic.
