I too think the goal should count--but not just in this special case. Even the goal scorer was amazed the goal was allowed even though it was a good hockey play. As an old-timer who has seen lots of close calls where the referee was wrong this is disturbing. The ruling was that the whistle was blown in error NOT that the goal was in before the whistle. Revisionist history to come?

I don't think we're necessarily saying different things here. The goal can definitely still be called off if the puck was in first. Whether it was before or after doesn't alone determine if it's a goal. What I'm saying is that the call that it was in error is only possible if the puck went in first. If the puck wasn't in and they blow it, even accidentally, I don't think you can overturn it because the whistle might have affected the actions of the defending team.
