Jaromir Jagr has skated with or against 3,287 of the 8,510 players that have appeared in at least one regular-season or playoff game with an NHL team, equating to 38.6% of all players in league history.

Impressive number, but of course the number of teams and players affect this. I wonder what the % would be for lets say after 1967 expansion. Or what is the % for the next player on the list.

This is my week of discovery. Thursday, I discovered that Noel Picard had an older brother - Roger - who played in the NHL with him with the Blues in 1967-68. Today I discovered that this same Roger Picard was responsible for Rod Gilbert becoming a New York Ranger. In 1955-56, Roger was playing for a team in Montreal coached by Yvon Prud'homme, and introduced 14-year-old (and unsigned) Gilbert to Prud'homme. Yvon was duly impressed. In 1956-57, Prud'homme was coaching Champetre in Junior B in Montreal, and Rod was one of his players. With the Rangers agreeing to sponsor Yvon's team, the Canadiens gave permission for New York to sign anyone on that team. That's how they got Jean Ratelle, too.

A few that I’m curious about:

Lidstrom and Yzerman. With 806 points, Lidstrom is the most productive defenseman from his debut in 1991-92 through Yzerman’s final season of 2005-06 (Yzerman had 955 points over that span). To a slightly smaller extent, Lidstrom and Fedorov seems like they could be high as well. Fedorov scored 875 points and Lidstrom 688 (second to Leetch) over their years together. I guess Detroit’s depth, someone like Coffey being around for Fedorov’s most productive seasons etc will affect things.

Same probably goes for a few Montreal greats.

Wonder how Potvin and Trottier or Doug Wilson and Denis Savard fared?

Edit: By a quick count, Lidstrom and Yzerman only factored in on 181 points together. Highest total in 1995-96 (27), lowest in 2002-03 (1). Might check a few more names when I get home from work.

I thought Robinson / Lafleur might be on that list, too. Had 11+ seasons together. But, I guess, when you think about it, 300+ points means 30 per year in this scenario, which is a lot.

The fact that Bourque didn't "do" this speaks to what a revolving door of top-line forwards he played with in Boston over the years.

Lidstom / Yzerman? I dunno, maybe too many quality forwards to share the scoring in Detroit. Also, as Lidstrom hit his peak, Yzerman was starting to decline a bit.

So I looked at a few Lidstrom duos.

Lidstrom - Yzerman as mentioned shared 181 points together (high of 27)
Lidstrom - Fedorov 173 (also high of 27)
Lidstrom - Datsyuk 164 (high of 31)
Lidstrom - Zetterberg 146 (high of 27)
and Lidstrom - Holmstrom 128 (high of 19)

Note that it’s very possible this isn’t the top five, I counted point shares player by player, season by season. I wouldn’t be surprised if Shanahan shared more points with Lidstrom than Holmstrom for example, I was simply curious to check Holma considering how closely connected he was with Lidstrom through his entire NHL career.

Other duos I looked at:

Potvin - Trottier: 250 points (high of 36)
Potvin - Bossy: 246 points (high of 30 though very consistently shared 25-30 points together per season: it struck me that Potvin produced more with Trottier early on, then considerably more with Bossy)

Wilson - Savard: 248 points (high of 34)

Pilote - Hull: 134 points (high of 22)
Pilote - Mikita: 128 points (high of 26)

Where are the Lightning ones at? Specifically Hedman/Stamkos, they've been playing together for like 15 years at this point.

Hedman - Stamkos: 216 points (high of 35)

Hedman needing a few (of Stamkos’ healthy peak) years to settle in before breaking out in 2013-14 probably hurts this duo, but they’ve still managed a lot together.

Hesman shares 164 points with Kucherov and has already broke their previous high of 38 points in a season: 41 points and counting. Wicked!

The Canucks had two Greg Adams play on the team in 1988-89. While one played 61 games for the team, the other played 12. They only played together for 2 games: April 1 and 2, 1989, a home and home against the Kings. Both Greg Adams scored a goal on April 1.

It’s mostly that they were the next pair, for me. I don’t really think of either Kopitar or Doughty as big point getters, but they’ve been together forever and never to part

Kopitar has more points has a Los Angeles Kings than Luc Robitaille now.

That said Doughty has barely more than 650 pts, how can 300 involve Kopitar, that a bit nuts...

But yes I think we are saying the same things, not that surprising that almost no duo co-scored like Orr-Esposito did, that those 2 are the closest one is the surprise.
